Drinking alone now. All my buddies I would have partied with have gone home. So it is just me, the sky, the damn alcoholic dog, and the small Delta Force of bottles in the corner of the hutch.
Find peace in the midst of chaos in Thomas William Montgomery's stunning debut, Viet Nam and Other Interruptions.
A fascinating collection of short stories, poetry, and commentaries that blend science fiction, fantasy, and brutal realism, Montgomery's writings provide an unprecedented glimpse into the effects of abuse and war on the human mind...and heart.
From discovering what it feels like to be lost inside a combat zone as night approaches with no way back to your base, to forming your last thoughts as you and your loved ones wait for imminent death, the stories in Viet Nam and Other Interruptions are certainly dark and often disturbing.
But Montgomery infuses light into the darkness as well, as he examines not only the depression, alcoholism, and self-mutilation that oftentimes characterizes war, but also the joy, hope, and ultimate peace that can be found when the dust settles.
About the Author: Thomas William Montgomery was born into a home filled with poverty, alcoholism, and abuse. His mother, however, managed to instill in him a resiliency and interest in literature that has stuck with him throughout his life.
He served in Viet Nam as a combat paramedic before going on to become a professor of behavioral sciences and minister emeritus, found a crisis hotline, and invent a personality measurement device.
Forced to retire early due to the effects of Agent Orange, Montgomery now writes full time, attends PTSD groups, works with other struggling soldiers, and delights in spending time with his grandchildren.
