La presente obra contiene la vida del maestro Luis Casas Romero. Nació el 24 de mayo de 1882 en la calle de los Pobres número 95, entre Callejón Montero y Tío Perico, hoy Padre Olallo 462 en la ciudad de Camagüey, hijo de Luis Casas Fuga y Adelina Romero García. Desde los 4 años de edad sentía un encantamiento por la música, a los 9 inició las primeras clases de solfeo; al año siguiente tocaba la flauta, a los 13 ejecutaba obras de concierto y a los 14 integraba una orquesta. Pero, por encima de todo, Luis profesaba un gran amor por su patria y se oponía a los colonialistas españoles, por lo que a los 15 años de edad se enroló como mambí en el Ejército Libertador, bajo el mando del General López Recio. Regresó de la guerra con una profunda herida en la pierna derecha. Al morir su padre en 1901, Casas Romero desempeñó diversas profesiones: tipógrafo, cajista de obra y corrector de prueba. Después fungió crítico musical; fundó, organizó y dirigió la Banda Infantil de Camagüey. De su primer matrimonio tuvo seis hijos que se vincularon con él a la radiodifusión en Cuba. En aquella época combinaba su labor como teniente y subdirector de la Banda del Estado Mayor del Ejército. En ese contexto se convierte en el iniciador de la era de la programación radial en nuestro país. Siempre se interesó en los fenómenos eléctricos vinculados con la música y, en unión de su hijo Luis Casas Rodríguez (1906-1987), se dio a la compleja tarea de construir un equipo emisor de señales sonoras. El Maestro Luis Casas Romero fue el creador del genero musical "criolla" cubana, siendo la primera la que lleva por título "Carmen", también es el creador de la criolla antológica "El Mambí". Creó más de quinientas piezas musicales, entre marchas, zarzuelas, boleros, criollas y otros géneros. Falleció en 1950.
About the Author: Flavio Rivera-Montealegre nació en Nicaragua, en 1951, es autor, editor, arquitecto, historiador, diseñador gráfico e investigador de la cultura de su país natal. Vive en el exilio, en Estados Unidos, desde hace 33 años. En la ciudad de Miami conoció al nieto del Maestro Luis Casas Romero, el poeta Luis Angel Casas, a quien le propuso editar la biografia de su abuelo, siendo el poeta Casas la persona que colaboró con todo el material musical de su abuelo y las fotos de la familia que aparecen en esta segunda edición ampliada. El poeta Casas falleció en el 2013, dejando al autor, Flavio Rivera-Montealegre el material adecuado para editar esta segunda edición ampliada. El autor, Rivera-Montealegre ha publicado varias obras, entre ellas la Vida y Obra de Rubén Darío, la vida del Maestro Edelberto Torres, autor de "La Dramática vida de Rubén Darío"; también ha publicado "Augusto C. Sandino. Escritos sobre el General de Hombres Libres"; "Alfonso Valle Candia. Escritos Testimoniales, Tomo I y Tomo II"; "La Tiniebra Infinita y Otros Poemas" del poeta Luis Angel Casas; y muchos otros que se encuentran disponibles en Amazon.com y en Barnes and Noble.
