Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Theologie - Sonstiges, Note: 1,0, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Theologische Fakultät), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Als Martin Scorseses Film Die letzte Versuchung Christi 1988 in den amerikanischen Kinos anlief, begleitete eine Protestwelle die Veröffentlichung, wie man sie in der Filmwelt bis dahin noch nicht erlebt hatte. Der oben zitierte Brief ist nur ein Beispiel der über 1500 Protestschreiben, die allein die Filmbewertungsstelle Wiesbaden und die Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft in Deutschland erhielten. Die meisten dieser Schreiben gingen noch vor dem deutschen Starttermin ein, sodass die Briefautoren den Film noch gar nicht gesehen haben konnten und fremde Urteile, vor allem aus den USA, übernommen haben mussten. Ziel war es, die Veröffentlichung des Films schon im Vorfeld zu verhindern. In anderen Ländern waren die Proteste sogar noch sehr viel zorniger, es kam zu gewalttätigen Auseinandersetzungen, in Paris wurde sogar ein Brandanschlag auf ein Kino verübt. Scorsese, selbst italienischstämmiger Katholik, wehrte sich immer wieder gegen derartige Vorwürfe und warb für ein richtiges Verständnis seines Films: Ich glaube, es ist ein religiöser Film über den leidvollen Kampf, Gott zu finden. Er ist aus Überzeugung und Liebe entstanden, und deshalb glaube ich, daß er eine Bestätigung und keine Verleugnung ist. Er wollte mit seinem Film und dessen Rezeption "die Geschichte des Evangeliums wieder frisch und lebendig machen, zu einem Gegenstand, über den man streiten und diskutieren kann." Wenngleich er auch immer wieder betonte, dass sein Werk nicht auf den Evangelien basiere - im Sinne einer neuen Version -, was auch im Vorspann zu lesen ist, so lassen sich im Film natürlich dennoch viele Analogien und aufgegriffene Motive der neu- und auch alttestamentlichen Schriften finden.
