Cada página de la historia social del hombre ha tenido lugar en un determinado punto geográfico y en un determinado momento, siendo ahí el enlace espiritual del hombre con su entorno, aferrándose a una identidad y convirtiéndose también en vigía y exponente del banco de las expresiones populares. En síntesis, podemos decir que el folclor tiene una relación directa con la historia, el contexto etnográfico y geográfico. Estos componentes nos ponen de manifiesto la identidad patriótica y nos hacen fortalecer el sentir de propiedad sobre determinada región.
Lo anterior nos hace sentir y manifestar la esencia cultural de la región a la que pertenecemos y, de igual manera, nos hace ver el contenido de aquello que ya no se puede olvidar, porque sobrevive a través de las generaciones, y por tanto nos permite tener algún conocimiento de las vivencias de nuestros ancestros; y además, nos hace evocar el recuerdo colectivo que genera el enlace del pasado con el presente cultural, conjugando elementos de la tradición popular, que pueden ser recreados a través del folclor.
Desde hace mucho tiempo el hombre sabe del conjunto de tradiciones que se arraigan en la memoria de los pueblos, estimulando el espíritu y el sentir colectivo, transmitiéndose de generación en generación, tales como vestimentas, rituales, supersticiones, costumbres, creencias, historias, leyendas, mitos, música, danzas, comidas típicas, refranes populares, la narración oral, etc., pero no existía un término apropiado para definir lo que William John Thoms, escritor inglés, en el año 1846, propuso con el término "folk-lore", refiriéndose a lo que hoy llamamos "Folclor", según la expresión lingüística en que se evoque este término.
Es así como el autor de esta obra, reúne la poesía y la narrativa, conectadas con el hilo de la tradición popular, y con el sabor del Folclor Caribe Colombiano; y hace buen uso de la Décima (Espinela) por ser ésta la pauta más elocuente de la poesía descriptiva, ya que goza de un formato con ritmo regular para diez versos octosílabos, de agradable rima consonante, que brindan facilidad para sintetizar, con pocas pero coherentes palabras, las ideas de manera clara y amena. Sea oportuno resaltar que la décima nos permite darle curso a su lectura, como cualquier párrafo escrito en prosa, observando, por supuesto, la debida puntuación.
He aquí VERSOS Y VERSIONES facilitando un espacio literario dedicado al folclor Caribe Colombiano, y en el marco poético de la Décima Espinela expone el amplio concepto popular de nuestra hermosa región, con un enfoque artístico a través del Verso, rindiendo un expresivo homenaje a Guillermo de Jesús Buitrago y a su Obra Musical, en conmemoración al Centenario de su natalicio, porque "El Jilguero de la Sierra Nevada" sigue vivo en el Folclor colombiano y en nuestros corazones.
