Verlobungsbriefe von Klopstock bis Kafka., Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: "Um einen guten Liebesbrief zu schreiben, musst du anfangen, ohne zu wissen, was du sagen willst, und endigen, ohne zu wissen, was du gesagt hast." Jean-Jacques Rousseau beschreibt das Schreiben von Liebesbriefen sehr treffend, wenn er sagt, dass man am Anfang häufig nicht in der Lage ist, einen Liebesbrief zu starten, weil man nicht weiß, wie man sich ausdrücken sollte und eine gewisse Hemmung in sich spürt. Irgendwie fließen dann aber doch die Worte aus dem Mund und man bringt sie zu Papier. Am Ende, beim Durchlesen des Liebebriefes entziehen sich die geschriebenen Wörter und Sätze dem Verstand und man weiß nicht so recht, wie man solch eine Sprache der Liebe zu Papier bringen konnte. Es spricht eben das Herz und das bedient sich einer anderen Sprache als unser Verstand. Genau an diesem Punkt setzt die vorliegende Arbeit an und beschäftigt sich mit Liebesbriefen im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. Gerade das 18. Jahrhundert wurde immer wieder als das Jahrhundert des Briefes bezeichnet. In der Gesellschaft dieser Zeit entsteht eine neue Individualität des Menschen, begründet durch eine zunehmende Naturbeherrschung und Zentrierung des Weltbildes auf den Menschen hin. Auch in den Brieflehren werden Veränderungen sichtbar und eine neue Ästhetik des Schreibens nach Gellert wird auf den Punkt gebracht. Dieser neue, natürliche Briefstil ist geprägt von einem freieren Schreiben, weg von formalen Regeln und Normen. Genau dieser natürliche Stil ist es wiederum, der seine Vollendung im Liebesbrief findet und wodurch das Schreiben an einen geliebten Gegenüber zu einer sehr beliebten Beschäftigung wird.
