Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Latinistik - Literatur, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Institut für Klassische Philologie), Veranstaltung: Lateinische Philologie, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Vergilkommentar des Servius zu ecl. 10, 1 und georg. 4, 1 findet sich die Nachricht, daß an der Stelle des Epyllions von Aristaeus bzw. Orpheus im vierten Buch der Georgica ursprünglich die laudes Galli gestanden hätten, Lobreden an seinen Freund Gallus. Nachdem Augustus diesen ermorden ließ, habe Vergil diese laudes Galli auf Befehl des Augustus entfernt und durch das Aristaeus- bzw. Orpheus-Epyllion ersetzt. Anhand dieser Angaben des spätantiken Kommentators hat man vielfach angebliche Kompositionsmängel darin zu erklären versucht. Die Verbindung von Aristeus, Orpheus und Eurydike, Proteus, der Bienen und der Bugonie scheint zudem eine originäre Leistung Vergil's zu sein. Er formte auch die mythische Tradition um und ließ den Kulturbringer und Wohltäter der Menschen Aristaeus schuldig werden am Tod der Eurydike und verknüpfte ihn somit mit dem Mythos von Orpheus und seiner Katabasis, den er ebenfalls dahingehend variierte, daß Orpheus mit seinem Versuch seine Eurydike aus der Unterwelt zurückzuholen, scheitert. In der folgenden Arbeit soll nicht etwa ein weiterer Versuch gemacht werden, die These von der Umarbeitung der Georgica zu widerlegen, sondern ausgehend von der Frage, welche kompositorische Intention Vergil mit der kunstvollen Verschachtelung und Umgestaltung der verschiedenen Mythen im Epyllion des vierten Buches verfolgte, soll untersucht werden, wie die beiden Figuren Aristaeus und Orpheus dargestellt und zueinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden, und welche Funktion sie jeweils erfüllen. Dabei wird sich zeigen, daß die Erzählungen keineswegs, im Sinne der Angaben des Servius, Ergebnis einer eilfertigen, willkürlichen Überarbeitung sein können, sondern ganz im Gegenteil mit dem gesamten Werk tiefgreifend vernetzt sind.
