Für immer komplexere Aufgaben benötigen Unternehmer eigens dafür ausgebildete Arbeitskräfte. Aber auch trotz einer großen Zahl von Erwerbslosen gibt es zunehmend Fälle, in denen ein Arbeitgeber auf dem freien Arbeitsmarkt keinen geeigneten Kandidaten für eine offene Stelle findet. Dies führt dazu, dass manch ein suchender Arbeitgeber den Entschluss fasst, den gesuchten Spezialisten aus einem bestehenden Arbeitsverhältnis bei einem anderen Unternehmen abzuwerben. Diese gezielte Abwerbung von erfahrenen, besonders qualifizierten Mitarbeitern bzw. Führungskräften bezeichnet man als Headhunting.1 Dies kann er persönlich oder mit eigenen Leuten versuchen. Häufig aber wendet er sich an einen sogenannten Headhunter. Darunter versteht man jemanden, der sich darauf spezialisiert hat, für bestimmte Stellen die geeigneten Mitarbeiter zu finden. Headhunter sind in der Regel auf bestimmte Branchen spezialisiert.2 Durch diese Kenntnisse sind sie in der Lage, geeignete Arbeitskräfte zu finden und anzuspreche n. Diesen wird die vakante Stelle beim Auftraggeber angeboten. Bei erfolgreicher Abwerbung bzw. Stellenbesetzung beim Auftraggeber erhält der Headhunter eine Erfolgsprovision, die durchaus die Höhe von einigen Monatsgehältern des akquirierten Mitarbeiters betragen kann. Teilweise wird unter Headhunting auch die private Arbeitsvermittlung von Spezialisten oder Managern verstanden.
