About the Book

After discontinuing all of my former works, I took an involuntary hiatus from writing seeing as I just felt like I wasn't that inspired. As these poems tend to go, there's a lot of personal issues I talk about and rehashing the past to just kind of let a lot of things go. I just write whatever I feel at any given moment, even in the most obscure verses like coding my heart to be hidden in plain sight. I will say perhaps my writing style is a bit of an acquired taste but I suppose my hope with this is that I'll appeal to a much broader audience by offering a decent amount of descriptions on what inspired certain pieces and what various lines mean to me. I will say I was still reserved in some regard because there's some poems in here that I leave solely to personal interpretation because I feel like it can at times take away from the experience for the reader; at least as far as for those who appreciate a more abstract flavor. I will say that probably over half of it is more or less political depending on how one might interpret various pieces. However, I feel that although a piece may be inspired by one thing and a line may seem to say something in context it can apply to an entire array of various subjects and certainly reflects more about myself than even what I may be talking about. I will caution that some may find certain strokes of honesty to be perhaps mildly offensive, but I'm not shy or reserved when it comes to branching out in some shock value as anyone who has seen some of my "darker" works may attest to. That being said anyone who has actually followed my blog stillbornpoetry.blogspot.com may have seen things that I've deleted or did not put in this book for personal reasons. Before I even find my general rhythm and feel something is publish worthy I'll filter through hundreds of things I write in just a few months or so and keep the things I genuinely connect with the most. Many writers I'm sure can relate to what it feels like to just hit a rut where all you feel like all you're doing is filling pages for the sake of having a longer and yet less meaningful work of art. I will say I've typically rushed things quite a bit in the past, and I tried to take my time with this one, I probably reread the entire manuscript at least 20 times or more. I don't know if many would see that as a lot or not. Nevertheless I feel it finally came to a place where I'm as content as I'll ever be with it although never satisfied. For getting back into the swing of things and having the experience prior, I'm sure that whoever has a chance to check it out will certainly appreciate it. Anyway, here it is, finally...VERBAL MOSAICS OF A DISJOINTED HEART
About the Author: My name is Nathan Phillips, I write under the name of Nathaniel Peter for no other reason than that I like the ring to it when it comes to being a writer. I was raised in Aurora, CO, and I've been writing since I was in high school. I'm currently 27 years old and discovered my ability to turn a phrase and express deep seated emotions or philosophical banter just in journaling as a way to vent about all the things that just comes with being alive. I'm a firm believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, although not everything I write about may seem consistent with that, as far as the brighter notions perhaps one may associate with the Christian faith. To be quite honest, I'm not the typical Christian. I don't always see things the way the general consensus of the Americanized knock off take on Jesus has been marketed. Perhaps at times I may come off critical but I guess that just reflects how I feel about it right now. Who knows how my views will change down the line. Nothing is off limits to write about and I'm an open book as much as you choose to understand. As I mentioned in the description of the book, I have a blog entitled stillbornpoetry.blogspot.com. I'm almost always writing and posting something new or even perhaps a video of a live performance. You can usually catch me in downtown Denver, CO on a Friday night at The Mercury Café pouring my heart out in the microphone. Anywhere there's an open mic, as much as I can, I'm there performing spoken word straight from my published works or more often than not, all new material. If you're ever in the area, stop on by.
