About the Book

The 5th volume of Poetry clearly expresses the interest Marshall takes in publishing poems. Often the crossover from Prose into Poetry is quite obvious (Prosetry). In between the task of editing the 2nd and 3rd part of his Novels: The Chrysanthemum Trilogy, he finds much pleasure in dabbling in poetry of all formats and genres. The first volume: Whispers in a Thunderstorm pulled together a collection of poems that were written over a 5 decade period. The 2nd Volume Chiaroscuro emphasised a rejuvenation of poetic skills and concepts. The 3rd volume: Continents on Fire focused on the unrelenting social and political global scene. The 4th volume: Tequila & Temptation played on themes of adulthood, parenthood and finally this 5th volume: Velvet Voice & Vice deals with the theme of relationships, love and laughter and new friendships. The different stages of growth are apparent in these five published volumes. Enlist as a fan and enjoy this journey into poetry landscape with all its beauty and splendour, bask in the sunshine of these exquisite verses and use hundreds of ideas and concepts in your work. Readers on the online websites, where these poems are regularly published, have commented on Marshall's creative energies and the multi-dimensional quality of his prose and poetry.
About the Author: Marshall E Gass is settled in New Zealand. He is married with two adult children. His writing career spans four decades and started at an early age. The first published work goes back to the early 70s when he appeared in local magazines and newspapers as a feature writer and poet. This rapidly expanded to national and international journals and magazines in a wide range of topics from literature to short stories, business management, religion and philosophy, economics, opinion columns, technology and technology education and research and information technology and computers. As an academic he has two Masters Degrees and two Post Graduate Diplomas in English Literature, Science, Teaching and Information Technology Education. He also has an incomplete PhD and is now contemplating further Doctoral study in Religion on Contemplation on the writings of Thomas Merton, the Cistercian monk. Writing Poetry is his first passion and through his poems readers will discover a person of wide interest with a sharp incisive mind that approaches all learning with reverence and joy. That approach to understanding the power of the pen is discernible in all his works. Marshall enjoys solitude and silence and finds time to read, write and take his dog Petals for walks. After a long career in business and teaching he has now settled down to pursue his passion for writing. Having published five poetry books, and three novels within two years time, he has set himself a scorching pace of five books each year and the evidence that this is possible is clearly visible. Velvet Voice & Vice is his 6th published book. Marshall is widely read and travelled and his ancestral background from opposite ends of the British Empire is testimony to the skill he exhibits in the English Language and ethnic nuances that permeate through his writing. He is a keen listener and an ardent fan of the All Blacks in New Zealand.
