Este tercer Cuaderno de Titeresante trata sobre algunas de las variaciones contemporáneas existentes en este gran apartado de lo que denominamos Teatro Popular de Títeres de Guante. Con la palabra "variaciones" queremos indicar las prácticas de aquellos titiriteros que, basándose en la tradición de los títeres populares e incluso en algunos de sus personajes, se desvían de los cánones y de la ortodoxia tradicional, sin por ello abandonar el carácter popular y en cierto modo "tradicional" de las mismas.

Este volumen consta también de una introducción donde se indaga sobre las características básicas del teatro de títeres popular de guante: la distorsión sintética y el efecto vitalista; personajes de Carácter y personajes de Destino, la mirada de Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio; y Economía de palabras.

Los casos tratados son los siguientes:

-La compañía La Pendue, de los dos titiriteros Estelle Charller y Romuald Collinet, con el espectáculo Poli...dégaine, una de las creaciones más deslumbrantes de lo que podríamos llamar "el nuevo teatro de títeres popular europeo";

-El caso del dramaturgo y titiritero Gigio Brunello, autor de varias obras basadas en el lenguaje tradicional de los títeres, al que ha sabido darle la vuelta con un estilo muy personal que aúna humor refrescante, culta ironía y una insólita libertad imaginativa;

-Paz Tatay, de la compañía Pelele, creadora de un original Don Cristóbal Polichinela, un personaje prácticamente desaparecido de la escena titiritera española. También hablamos de la compañía Libélula y sus Cristobitas, de Alauda Teatro, con su versión del Don Cristóbal Polichinela, así como de los modelos creados por Helena Millán, según las indicaciones de Adolfo Ayuso;

-El titiritero de Valls Eudald Ferré, quien ha desarrollado nuevas formas de escenificación del llamado Titella Català, como la realizada junto a Luca Ronga en la obra Z, las aventuras del Zorro;

-Luís Zornoza Boy, de la compañía Siesta Teatro, empeñado en los últimos años en dar vida a su Punchinela, desde una perspectiva tradicional y a la vez popular-vanguardista, una cuadratura del círculo asaz conseguida;

-Viravolta, de Galicia, con la puesta en escena de obras de profunda raigambre literaria, como es el espectáculo sobre la vida del bandido Toribio de Mañón, personaje que inspiró en su día a Don Ramón del Valle-Inclán a escribir 'Las Galas del Difunto', esperpento de Martes de Carnaval;

-Pilar, Paco y Eva Paricio, de Los Titiriteros de Binéfar, creadores de un estilo propio que junta el lenguaje del teatro popular más genuino con el títere de guante tratado desde mil maneras diferentes;

-El Chonchón, Pizzicato Teatro y Telba Carantoña Teatro. Las obras de El Chonchon, han impactado profundamente en el mapa titiritero español y latinoamericano. Una línea de trabajo que cabe relacionar con la estela dejada por los grandes dramaturgos-titiriteros argentinos Javier Villafañe, Roberto Espina y los hermanos Di Mauro. En esta misma línea estilística de trabajar los títeres, hablaremos también del argentino Gerardo Capobianco, de la compañía Pizzicato Teatro, hoy instalada en España, y de Emmanuel Gunezler y José Quevedo, de la compañía venezolana Telba Carantoña Teatro, recién afincados en Lisboa.

Hemos pensado que este muestreo de diferentes prácticas contemporáneas, a pesar de los vacíos y las carencias ingentes que tiene, puede llegar a darnos unas pinceladas aproximativas de la realidad del títere popular en España y en parte de Europa y Latinoamérica. Quizá lo que los une es que, de todos ellos, el autor ha tenido un conocimiento directo, como queda reflejado en las páginas de la revista digital Titeresante y en algunos de sus blogs.
