About the Book

Este cuento narra la historia de una joven vagabunda que se dirige al palacio del rey Romuel en busca de una audiencia. A pesar de su aspecto desaliñado, la joven persiste en su solicitud y decide acampar cerca de la puerta del castillo. Los guardias, influenciados por la mala imagen que ella proyecta sobre la realeza, intentan expulsarla. Sin embargo, la joven se enfrenta a ellos y se niega a ser desalojada hasta obtener la audiencia que tanto desea.
El ruido de la confrontación llega a oídos del rey, quien se asoma por una ventana y se entera de la insistencia de la vagabunda por verlo. Movido por la compasión y el deseo de escuchar a su pueblo, el rey ordena que permitan el acceso de la joven al palacio.
No obstante, los lacayos informan a la vagabunda que no puede presentarse ante el rey en su estado actual, por lo que la llevan a una habitación para que se bañe y se vista de manera más adecuada. La joven sigue las indicaciones y finalmente es presentada ante el rey.
A pesar de las críticas y murmullos de los cortesanos debido a la apariencia tosca de la vagabunda, el rey queda cautivado por su mirada, en la cual puede percibir su alma pura y las buenas intenciones de su visita. Consciente de las burlas de los demás, el rey decide pedirles a todos que abandonen la sala y ordena que se prepare una mesa con los mejores manjares para poder hablar tranquilamente con la joven.
La llegada de la vagabunda al palacio del joven monarca Romuel despierta su interés y curiosidad. Las primas del rey, cortesanas, se fijan en la joven y deciden transformarla para que pueda presentarse más hermosa ante el soberano. Romuel queda sorprendido por la belleza de la joven y decide entablar una conversación con ella. La vagabunda le pide ayuda para educar a unos huérfanos y el rey acepta, decidiendo hacerlo personalmente. Sin embargo, la joven sugiere que vayan de manera sencilla para no asustar a los niños. Juntos, parten a buscar a los huérfanos con una comitiva modesta y sencilla.
En el bosque del olvido, la vagabunda demuestra su habilidad para imitar los sonidos de los pájaros, lo que impresiona al soberano y le permite comunicarse con los niños. Finalmente, llegan al claro donde se encuentran los pequeños y la vagabunda les indica que se mantengan callados. La comitiva llega al claro, disfrazada de guardias y con carretas llenas de frutas, y los niños se alegran al ver los manjares. La vagabunda anuncia a los huérfanos que partirán a un lugar más seguro y todos comienzan a prepararse para la partida. Las carretas parten con los niños y la vagabunda, quien agradece brevemente tocando la mano del rey en señal de gratitud.
La academia de caballeros que se construye bajo la dirección del rey Romuel es un lugar completo y bien equipado. Cuenta con habitaciones para albergar a los estudiantes, comedores para las comidas, salas de estudio y recreativas, una biblioteca con una amplia colección de libros, salas de entrenamiento y equitación, y áreas médicas para el cuidado de la salud de los estudiantes. Es un entorno que fomenta el aprendizaje, el crecimiento personal y el desarrollo de habilidades tanto físicas como intelectuales.
Sin embargo, la historia da un giro inesperado cuando la vagabunda recibe una triste noticia a través de un mensajero. Se entera de que su padre, quien fue un buen rey y un aliado de los padres de Romuel en el pasado, ha fallecido.
La historia culmina con grandes sorpresas donde el lector podrá descubrir cómo se unen los dos reinos dando nacimiento a otros futuros monarcas.
