Nach einer repräsentativen Umfrage des ZDF Politbarometers stuften 83 % der deutschen Bundesbürger 2007 die Gefahren des Klimawandels als gefährlich ein und gaben an, dass sie sich große Sorge um die unumkehrbaren Folgen der Klimaveränderungen machen. Damit sollte davon auszugehen sein, dass die Einleitungsfrage aus ethischer Perspektive leicht zu beantworten ist. Ein anderes Bild zeichnet stattdessen eine Umfrage aus dem Jahre 2010. Hier waren es nur noch 42 % der Bundesbürger, die ihre Sorge Klimawandel und zur globalen Erwärmung markierten. Innerhalb eines Zeitraumes von nur drei Jahren, der vor allem durch die Finanzkrise und die damit verbundenen Folgen geprägt war, hat sich die Anzahl derer, die den Klimawandel als Bedrohung und aktuelle Gefahr ansehen, halbiert. Auf internationaler Ebene zeigte sich diese negative Entwicklung in Fragen der Umweltproblematik deutlich auf dem Weltklimagipfel in Durban. Auf der zum Scheitern drohenden Konferenz konnte erst im letzten Augenblick ein Kompromisspapier ausgehandelt werden, das in vielen Details auf Einigungen verzichtet und keine Angaben zur Rechtsverbindlichkeit macht. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, einen Überblick über Umweltbildung als fächerübergreifendes Konzept in Verbindung der Fächer katholischer Religionsunterricht und Physik im schulischen Kontext zu geben und Möglichkeiten zur Vernetzung beider Fächer aufzuzeigen. In diesem Zusammenhang werden die Besonderheiten der Umweltbildung in Abgrenzung zu anderen ökologischen Lehr- und Lernkonzepten abgegrenzt und die Chancen für eine fächerübergreifende Verbindung zwischen Geistes- und Naturwissenschaft aufgezeigt.
