Die Anwendung der stromstarken Glimmentladung nach BERGHAUS (Ionitrieren) ermöglicht die Erzeugung von Nitrierschichten von hoher Härte und Zähigkeit. Die Versuchs bedingungen waren auf Probleme, die in der Praxis vorliegen, abzu- stimmen, wobei zur Prüfung der Notlaufeigenschaften bei Abnutzungsversuchen auf einer AMSLER-Abnutzungsmaschine die Schmierung durch Wasserein- wirkung beeinträchtigt wurde. Dies hat eine kurzzeitige, hohe Reibungsbean- spruchung und eine hohe Abnutzung der Laufflächen zur Folge; es ergaben sich bei den Untersuchungen folgende Ergebnisse: Durch eine Ionitrierung beider Laufflächen einer Versuchspaarung kann eine wesentliche Ver- besserung des Abnutzungsverhaltens verglichen mit einsatzgehärteten und lJergüteten Reib- flächen erzielt werden. Diese Verbesserung drückt sich in einem wesentlich späteren Anstieg der Reib- zahlen nach Beginn der Wassereinwirkung aus; die Standzeit erhöhte sich bei ionitrierten Laufflächen auf das anderthalb- bis sechsfache gegenüber den Aus- gangszuständen. Auch die Vergleiche der Gewichtsverluste der Probekörper er- geben für ionitrierte Laufflächen eine Verbesserung in der gleichen Größen- ordnung. Diese Verbesserung tritt besonders bei hohen Beanspruchungen und bei einsatz gehärteten Paarungen in Erscheinung; sie wird durch die metallo- graphische Auswertung bestätigt und ergänzt, wobei gleichzeitig die große Form- beständigkeit der ionitrierten Probekörper heraus sticht. Dabei mußten für die Ionitrierung teilweise ungünstige Vorbedingungen in Kauf genommen werden. Die Anwendung dieser Erkenntnisse in der Praxis ergab eine mindestens ebenso große Steigerung der Standzeiten und bestätigte somit eindrücklich die durch die Ionitrierung erzielte Verbesserung des Abnutzungsverhaltens und die weitgehende Reproduzierbarkeit der Laborversuche.
