Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Ältere Deutsche Literatur, Mediävistik, Note: 1,0, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das deutsche Substantiv "Ansehen" lässt sich leicht vom gleichlautenden Verb "ansehen" ableiten. Die Bedeutung hat sich bei der Entwicklung vom Verb zum Substantiv jedoch bedeutend erweitert. So kann man das "Ansehen" nicht mit dem ähnlich klingenden Wort "Aussehen" gleichsetzen, denn das Ansehen einer Person meint eigentlich nicht ihre äußere Erscheinung. Ganz im Gegenteil das "Ansehen" einer Person referiert eher auf ihre inneren Werte. Im Duden heißt es hierzu: "Achtung, Wertschätzung, hohe Meinung (...)" . Wie jedoch kann ein Nomen, das sich aus einem Verb entwickelt hat, dessen Bedeutung sich so eindeutig auf Äußerlichkeit und Oberflächenbeschaffenheit bezieht sich in der Ableitung so verändern? Die Antwort darauf könnte in der Entwicklung dieses Wortes vom Mittelalter hin zur Neuzeit liegen, oder besser gesagt im Zusammenspiel von "Ansehen" und der Bedeutung von Visualität für die mittelalterliche Gesellschaft. In dem mittelhochdeutschen Wörterbuch herausgegeben von Mathias Lexer findet sich zum Wort "ansehen" noch keine große Veränderung zum Verb, jedoch weist das Substantiv im Wörterbuch der Gebrüder Grimm bereits große Nähe zur heutigen Bedeutung auf. Außerdem wird hier noch auf ein mittelhochdeutsches Wort "anesehen" verwiesen, das sich jedoch bei Lexer nicht finden lässt. Abgesehen von der exakten lexikalischen Bedeutung lässt sich durchaus eine Verbindung von Ansehen im Sinne von Ehre, Macht, Einfluss und der feudalen Gesellschaft des Mittelalters ziehen. Die äußere Erscheinung einer Person, denn nur in Bezug auf Personen oder personalisierte Gegenstände wird das Wort "Ansehen" gebraucht, lässt im Mittelalter häufig auf die soziale Stellung schließen. Bestimmte Stoffe oder Schmuck durften beispielsweise nur von Angehörigen des Adels verwendet werden. In der Literatur wird das
