Betrachtet man den alpinen Tourismus und dessen Wachstum und Entwicklung über den Zeitraum der letzen 50 Jahre hinweg, so wird ersichtlich, dass er sich wesentlich vom Verkäufermarkt zum Käufermarkt gewandelt hat. Die anfängliche Wachstumsphase im alpinen Tourismus in den 50er Jahren bis in die 80ger Jahre hinein war dabei weniger durch ausgeprägtes Unternehmertum im eigentlichen Sinne geprägt. Vielmehr kam Imitation und die Bedienung eines alles verschlingenden Marktes zum tragen. In der aktuellen Stagnationsphase und einer wachsenden Konkurrenz von anderen Tourismusdestinationen ist jedoch das Unternehmertum mehr als je zuvor gefragt. Dieses Buch beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit dem Unternehmertum im Schumpeterschen Sinn sowie den Motiven, die hinter der Unter-nehmens-gründung stecken. Dabei wurden Unternehmer im alpinen Tourismus in Österreich und Kanada auf deren unternehmerische Ausprägungen untersucht. Dieses Buch richtet sich daher hauptsächlich an Unternehmensgründer im Tourismus, welche sich als Entrepreneure verstehen möchten.
