Moritz versetzte seine Eltern nach ein paar Tagen Montessori-Schule in Staunen. [...] Wozu brauchen dort Erstklässler ein Jackett?, Ich muss einen Vortrag halten', antwortete Moritz. Schon die Kleinsten halten Vorträge. Noten gibt es bis zur 8. Klasse nicht - wie im Schulmusterland Schweden. Aber was für eine Prüfung ist so ein Vortrag! Welche Vorfreude und Aufregung, welche Scham, welcher Stolz und was für eine Leistung! Moritz' erster Auftritt handelte von Pferden. Inzwischen ist er im fünften Jahrgang und referiert souverän über Experimente mit Lichtstrahlen. [...] Unterricht, wie man ihn kennt, gibt es hier ohnehin meist nicht. Tagesanfang in einer der drei parallelen Klassen mit dem ersten, zweiten und dritten Jahrgang. Die Schüler sitzen im Halbkreis und lauschen dem achtjährigen Jacob, der über Apfelsorten doziert. Früher gab es mal 32, jetzt mehr als 2000 Sorten. Neben Jacobs gut geordneten Notizzetteln stehen sechs Schalen voller Apfelscheiben. In jeder eine andere Sorte. Die reicht er nun herum. Auch schmecken ist eine Übung im Unterscheiden. Und lernen heißt hier eher, Unterschiede zu erkennen, als etwas zu kopieren. [...] In der zweiten Stunde wird dem Besucher eine Augenbinde gereicht. Das gehört mit zum Ritual, das im vergangenen Jahr mehr als 800 Gäste dieser Schule gern ertragen haben. Warum denn eine Augenbinde?, Jetzt ist Freiarbeit', erklärt [...] die Schulleiterin., Hören Sie doch einfach mal nur zu.' [...] Am beeindruckendsten sind in dieser Schule die Gesichter der Schüler. Diese Schönheit beim Erwachen und allmählichen Erwachsenwerden von Intelligenz ist ein unschlagbares Argument."
