About the Book

'Our Hospital' is a fine imaginary hospital where miracles happen daily. At the same time, our proud imaginary hospital is not as safe for our patients and our staff as it can be. Therefore, it is not as safe as it must be. Made uncomfortable by this epiphany, our enlightened hospital leadership has now become "impatiently alarmed" and has requested proposals to advance immediate, necessary, dramatic, meaningful and measurable safe patient-centered care. Unsafe to Safe - An Impatient Proposal for Safe Patient-centered Care is a kind, gentle, optimistic response to leadership's request.
About the Author: Dr. Mike White is a board certified internist whose career is dedicated to advancing Healthcare Value. Dr. White completed his pre-med studies at Union College in his home town of Schenectady and graduated from Albany Medical College. He interned (internal medicine) at New York Medical College's Metropolitan and Flower Fifth Avenue Hospitals and completed his residency training at Greenwich Hospital Association in affiliation with Yale. He was in private practice in Southington, Connecticut. He has served as residency faculty and director of clinics at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, department chair and residency program director at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown (Pennsylvania), program director and vice president quality at Pittsburgh's St. Francis Medical Center, senior vice president value and education and chief medical officer at UPMC McKeesport and vice president value and chief medical officer at Meritus Medical Center in Washington County (Maryland). Training at Crosby's Quality College and a Faculty Development Fellowship at Michigan State have significantly influenced his career. His work has been nurtured and inspired by the inventions and messages of many mentors and by the teaching/coaching of many regional and national organizations. He considers it his good fortune that his career positioned him to contemplate the synthesis of administrative, clinical, medical staff, graduate medical education and quality/safety concepts for the advancement of safe patient-centered care. Dr. White and his wife Jackie live in Hagerstown, Maryland. He can be contacted at mikewhitemd@gmail.com. He will be pleased to hear from you.
