Libby Thompson faced two months of rigorous therapy after emerging from her coma. She wanted to start over with Richard, but not before getting some answers from the scientist who had put her in a coma, Dr. Fischer. Without responding to her questions, Dr. Fischer does warn her that the Obstinates will stop at nothing to find her.
When Libby and Richard visit her uncle, the Obstinates attack, and Libby witnesses Richard killing all three intruders.
The assault on the Obstinates' headquarters planned by Mr. Muller and Libby's friends goes off without a hitch until Richard is stabbed, and Libby runs after him when both of them are captured. Richard is then forced to watch as they subject Libby to horrible experiments and torment.
The group of friends and Libby's uncle manage to get Richard out of the facility, but they are unable to find and rescue Libby, so they have to abandon her to save Richard. Libby is saved by a nurse named Marley and a security guard named Luke, but she has difficulty recovering when she is taken home. She no longer recognized herself because the organization's experiments had changed her perspective on life. Libby, Richard, and their group of friends, with Marley's help, recruit the police chief and another gang to mount another attack on the Obstinates.
With the help of one of his closest friends, Gabriel, Richard begins to lose control and give in to the darkness within, going on a hidden killing spree, killing anyone he can find who is part of the Obstinates, interrogating, torturing, and killing them. Libby is kidnapped on the day of the attack and used in sick experiments, tortured physically, and humiliated. The Obstinates' cruel acts include sending explicit images of Libby's agony to Richard.
After weeks of holding and torturing Libby, Richard gets some answers from Dr. Fischer and discovers that they have Libby in an underground bunker. In the hopes that he can rescue her and, more crucially, be there for her and give her hope for their planned rescue, they agree to let Dr. Fischer take Richard in as a captive. The most important thing is to delay handing Libby over to Jack, who intends to horribly mistreat and destroy her until she is hopeless and broken. They manage to rescue Libby just in time, but it's unclear how much of an emotional and psychological toll the ordeal took on her.
With Richard's undying love and support, Libby is able to slowly heal and eventually reclaim her body and life from the men who abused her.
