About the Book

Have you ever wondered why all the traditional bedtime stories have such a brutal, conservative slant and bias? Think about it. The standard formula -- kid misbehaves, kid gets caught misbehaving, kid gets torn to bits by bears, eaten by wolves or slow-roasted by witches. Are THOSE the images YOU want to send your kid off to sleep with? Wouldn't you rather be able to tuck your kids in at night with some positive, life-affirming, choice-affirming PROGRESSIVE bedtime tales? Sure you would. That's why I offer my new book: "UNCLE BILL'S BEDTIME STORIES FOR PROGRESSIVES" A lot of these stories have already appeared either on my blog or on my Technorati column. But many have not. 30 stories in all, also, an appendix of many, many foto-shopped funnies for your kids to enjoy! Now, because I can spend Conservative money as well as Liberal money, I've thrown in a few Fables for Conservatives. I'll be producing this as an audiobook as well, with the conservative fables being read by none-other than the Prince of Darkness, Satan. If your kids have a grasp of "irony" they'll enjoy these as well. The conservatives will think the whole book supports THEIR point of view. Remember, they think Stephen Colbert is an actual conservative. Send your kids off to dreamland with stories that don't dumb it down for them. Your kids are hip and smart, and we NEED the next generation to be hipper and smarter than WE were. We need them to realize that TMZ is NOT the news! We need them to realize that FOX, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, CNN and ABC are all corporate-owned and tell us what THEY want us to know and believe. We need the NEXT generation to have the capacity to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. This is my contribution. Enjoy.
About the Author: t's been an interesting career. I've been a radio disc jockey, news director, program director, talk show host, and I was one of the original broadcasters at XM Satellite Radio. I've been a newspaper editor, writer, reporter and columnist. In between radio and news gigs, I drove 18-wheeler for a living. I eventually found myself working for the federal government, as a writer-editor with the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health, a job from which I was forced by Parkinson's disease in March 2011. Parkinson's disease... It was just about three weeks after my 45th birthday in 2000 when I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In 2007 while working at a federal agency as a writer and podcaster, telling other people about the importance of clinical trials, I heard about and volunteered for an experimental brain surgery to determine whether or not "deep brain stimulation" could be done on patients in the earlier stages of the disease. The purpose of the clinical trial is to prove that DBS, when done earlier in the progression of the disease, might just slow down or stop the degeneration that is an inevitable part of the disease. "Put On Your Parky Face!" is the story of my "Parkinson's Decade" from being diagnosed in 2000, to having the surgery in 2007, through today. The story is told in a humorous, satirical, almost jovial first-person, conversational style. It's a book that should be on the reading list of anyone who has (or loves someone who has) Parkinson's disease. 100 percent of the author proceeds go to the National Parkinson Foundation and the Charles DBS Research Fund at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I currently blog about my PD experiences at http: //billschmalfeldt.com and I write satire about world and national politics for Technorati at http: //technorati.com/politics/feature/troll/. My most recent book of satire (before this one) is "Why I Hate America, Freedom and Everything Decent" available at CreateSpace.com and Amazon. I have a left-wing point of view and little patience for tea party nonsense. Feel free to check my blog, share your comments and just say "hello"!
