About the Book

Uncle Art's Bible Favorites: A Study Guide to the Bible is a compendium of explanatory articles, each of which addresses some facet of the Bible. While the chapters are brief enough to accommodate typical Bible study sessions, they avoid the superficial treatment usually given to the subject matter. In fact, much of the material addresses issues that, despite their importance toward understanding the God of our Bible, are rarely given the attention that they deserve. The chapters are organized around seven primary themes arranged in separate volumes - the relationship between the Old and the New Testaments, time as it applies to God's domain, items of unique interest, the feminine side of God, the depth of God's loving nature, God's character, and Israel as God's special nation. The organization itself is somewhat arbitrary, inviting the Bible study leader or student to choose the sequence in which the chapters are selected, according to the preference of the individual or group. The topics not only offer sorely-needed insights into the nature of God, but are truly the author's favorites in their ability to evoke a sense of wonder over God's magnificent nature and domain as well as the enormity of His love toward mankind. The topics covered are suitable for wide range of age levels from the early teen years for mature students through adulthood. Many of the subjects, as selected by qualified study leaders, would be appropriate as well for precocious pre-teens.
About the Author: Arthur Perkins is an electrical engineer by training and a Christian at heart who takes seriously the commandment of Moses, repeated by Jesus, to "Love our God with all our hearts, souls and might." In honor of that love, Art and his wife Carolyn have devoted time to sharing Scripture with others in nursing and assisted-living homes. Art and Carolyn live in the foothills of Mount Rainier in rural Western Washington. In the course of the nursing home activity, Art met the key figure in Buddy, whose cheerful outlook in the face of the painful and seriously limiting affliction of cerebral palsy inspired him to write of their shared adventure of flight in that novel. Buddy was followed by three other novels, Cathy, Jacob, and Home, Sweet Heaven involving the fictional character Earl Cook and his wife Joyce. A unifying theme of this series is Christian service, first toward the handicapped and, expanding outward, toward the unsaved and to the faithful adherents of Christianity's beloved mother religion, Judaism, and ultimately to God's spiritual domain. Along with the adventures that Earl and Joyce encounter, they share with the reader topics of the Bible and the nature of God that are not commonly presented to the average Churchgoer, enriching the readers' understanding of the faith they have embraced and which are of significance in today's chaotic world. In addition to the novels, Art has written a Christian nonfiction book entitled Marching to a Worthy Drummer, in which he addresses the true nature of the Holy Spirit who, unfortunately, has been misrepresented by the Church for a distressingly long time. Art and his wife Carolyn have shared together many of the experiences described in his novels. Since their retirement, they continue to build a repertoire of treasured memories out of their mutual interests and incredible adventures. Residing above the unifying themes of Christian service and the understanding of Scripture dwells the all-important subject of love: the love of God toward us and the possibility of its return to Him by us. On top of that love between God and the human race is the amazing love that exists within the Godhead Itself. It is the profound love that exists within the Godhead between its Divine Members that drives this nonfiction work, motivating the author to share in its appreciation with readers who wish to experience the love of God in the fullness that He intended.
