About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Winner of the 2019 Premi Ciutat de Barcelona.

A haunting journey between life and death, between love and loss in this notable debut novel by Mateo García Elizondo

«I came to Zapotal to die once and for all. As soon as I set foot in town, I got rid of everything I had in my pockets, the keys to the house I left behind, and anything that had my name or my picture on it. All I have left are three thousand pesos, two hundred grams of opium and a quarter of an ounce of heroin, and that should be enough to kill myself. The protagonist, and also narrator, of this novel goes in search of a final date with "the lady" in the form of a white powder, and for this he undertakes a journey in which he will come across disturbing characters, the ghosts of friends that have died along the way, memories of the great city that he left behind, and he will also face his own past.

In this amazing and extraordinary debut novel, Mateo García Elizondo narrates the spectral descent of an addict into the depths of hell.
