El libro Un siglo de expansión colonizadora de Renée Ferrer es un intento serio por romper el desequilibro entre la metrópoli y las tierras del interior, para desentrañar y revalorizar el pasado de un habitat -el del Norte- íntimamente ligado al decurso histórico del Paraguay. Con el soporte de más de 700 citas codumentales, Renée Ferrer ha sintetizado una referencia vigorosa sobre un periodo notable de nuestro pasado. Sus páginas conservan, a pesar de la época abordada, la frescura de las descripciones de la vida cotidiana del Paraguay de finales del siglo XVIII y comienzos del XIX; remarcan el nacimiento de una comunidad que, alejada de la capital y huérfana a menudo de su asistencia material, debió vérselas sola -como ocurrió con la misma Asunción en tiempos de la colonia- y sola preservar su identidad. Creemos que el libro es un parámetro útil para comprender, dos siglos después, cómo nacieron y crecieron loas comunidades del Norte, y cómo sus hijos alcanzaron, ya a mitad de camino, los propósitos trazados por Fernando de Pinedo en 1773.
About the Author: Renée Ferrer nació en Asunción, Paraguay en 1944. Poeta, novelista, cuentista y dramaturga, se doctoró en Historia por la Universidad de Asunción con la tesis "Desarrollo Socio-Económico del Núcleo Poblacional Concepcionero", publicada como Un siglo de expansión colonizadora. Los orígenes de Concepción. Entre su obra poéticas se destacan Cascarita de nuez, De la eternidad y otros delirios, Itinerario del deseo, Peregrino de la eternidad, Sobreviviente, Viaje a destiempo, El ocaso del milenio, Poesía completa hasta el año 2000, y, posteriormente, Las cruces del olvido, La celebración del cuerpo y otros cantos y Las moradas del universo. En narrativa las novelas Los nudos del silencio, Vagos sin tierra y La Querida; las colecciones de cuentos La Seca y otros cuentos, Desde el encendido corazón del monte (de tema ecológico), Por el ojo de la cerradura y Entre el ropero y el tren, además de la obra teatral La colección de relojes. Ha escrito literatura infantil, como La mariposa azul y otros cuentos, las novelas cortas Las andanzas de un anhelo y Pupunca (inédita), los poemarios Cascarita de nuez, Campo y cielo y Galope, y las obras teatrales El misterio de la mariposa azul, Salvemos el lago y De cómo un niño salvó un cedro. Fue Presidenta de la Sociedad de Escritores del Paraguay (1998-1999). Desde 2011 es Presidenta de la Academia Paraguaya de la Lengua Española. Su obra está incluida en numerosas antologías nacionales y extranjeras y ha recibido distinciones fuera y dentro del Paraguay. En el exterior: Premio Pola de Lena, Cuentos, España, en 1985; Mención Especial Premio Unesco y Feria Internacional del Libro de Buenos Aires, 1995, libro ecológico Desde el encendido corazón del monte, Mención Revista "La porte de poetes", París, 1999, por El ocaso del milenio; En 2003, Condecoración "Caballero de la Orden de las Artes y las Letras", del Ministro de la Cultura y de la Comunicación de Francia; 2004 Premio Literario Naji Naaman, Líbano; 2005, "Mejor Novela Extranjera" por Los nudos del silencio, PEN Club de Puerto Rico; 2006, "Premio Menada", República de Macedonia, por su obra poética. 2010, Premio Municipal de Literatura, por La Querida, ambientada en la época de la dictadura de Alfredo Stroessner; 2011 Premio Nacional de Literatura, por el poemario Las moradas del universo. Su obra poética y narrativa está traducida al guaraní, francés, inglés, alemán, sueco, rumano, portugués, italiano, albanés, árabe y al hindi.
