About the Book

¿Cómo sobreponerse a ello?

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Umbra is a magnificent, disturbing metaphor about the future of the human species, a reflection about voice and communication, about the archaeology of a distant past that is our present and the future evolution of the species.

Umbra takes place in a future in which humans can no longer make sounds and the planet is divided into one region full of light and another, called Umbra, in shadow. The echoes of the voices of our present were fossilized in a mineral called "ecoral," which is the main source of energy. The upper classes break fragments of mineral to free the prisoner echoes that sound one last time before disappearing. But the mineral is growing scarce, so the majority of Umbra's population lives voiceless and in the dark, communicating by touch.

How do we overcome this? How do we reconstruct our voices in a world of silence and darkness?

Umbra is Mercedes Cebrián's fifth bet as editor of Trojan Horse in 2018. Now in its fourteenth year, the mark is nowadays a model among young, ambitious authors. Each year, a guest editor puts their personal mark on the catalog.
