Esta sea quizás la más grande de todas cuantas sensaciones vayáis a experimentar a lo largo de vuestras vidas. Vosotros, que sabéis del amor de una madre, de esa dulce sensación que produce el saberse amado, recibís el mayor de los regalos al que pueda aspirar un hombre: el amor de Dios... A vuestros padres me dirijo. De vosotros y obviamente de mí como sacerdote, depende que el amor prendido se mantenga firme ante los vientos y tempestades que a todos llegan en esta vida. Los niños imitan a los mayores jugando a ser hombres; pero los hombres nos dejamos dominar de nuestros oscuros deseos ¡en tantas ocasiones¡ Es preciso vencer esa innata pereza a ser felices a cualquier costa; que los niños vean en nosotros modelos a imitar... Perlan la frente del sacerdote gruesas gotas de sudor. La voz se le quiebra y ha de hacer un gran esfuerzo para proseguir. Su mente le dicta un mensaje; su corazón, manos y ojos les piden a gritos que cruce la barrera. De igual manera la mujer trata de contener la emoción que, finalmente, le desborda. Llora sin recato alguno. Intenta fijar la empañada mirada en los ojos del sacerdote. Se diría no obstante que hubiese entre ellos un universo oscuro, sin la posibilidad material de establecer contacto. En rededor, en la inmensa negrura intergaláctica, rocas y mundos sin vida.-Padres, disfrutad del amor de vuestros hijos; disfrutad y vivir el amor del hogar. Dios os ha llevado al matrimonio como medio de santidad, de igual modo que a otros, hombres, al fin y al cabo, nos marca otras sendas de entrega, probablemente más duras, por cuanto de desprendimiento de lo más íntimo supone renunciar a la propia naturaleza humana. Con esfuerzo sobrehumano el sacerdote mantiene erguida su figura, que se le quiebra de dolor profundo. Trata de vencer el imán de unos ojos que le subyugan como el mar hace al río. Fracasa en el intento, aprieta puños y clava sus uñas en las palmas de las manos. Contempla el cielo a través de los ventanales e implora ayuda. Enmudece. Los niños guardan silencio; los mayores cuchichean por lo bajo. -La vocación sacerdotal es un don divino, que trasciende la propia voluntad. Cuando os llegue el momento, habréis de tomar una determinación. La vida es breve y acaso pueda ser maravillosa; pero vivirla en plenitud implica en ocasiones la entrega a nuestros semejantes; a quienes carezcan de techo, pan o paz. Tal vez el Espíritu Santo haya puesta su mirada en alguno de vosotros. El camino del sacerdocio es un camino duro, plagado tanto de espinas como de rosas... 4El sacerdote enjuga el rostro sudoroso, interrumpiendo su sermón una vez más. Luego prosigue con la voz preñada de amargura y dirigiéndose a la mujer: -O tal vez ni siquiera compense. Los designios de Dios resultan inescrutables, y no nos es dado, alcanzar a vislumbrar su bendito y anhelado rayo de luz clarificadora.
