Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Institut für deutsche Literatur), Veranstaltung: Theodor Storm: Novellen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Darstellung der zutiefst hasserfüllten und deshalb einsamen, vom Alter schwer gezeichneten und höchst argwöhnischen Madame Sievert Jansen in Theodor Storms "Im Nachbarhause links" lässt keinen Zweifel, dass im Leben der Greisin etwas gründlich schief gegangen ist, das in ihrem späteren Leben seinen Tribut zollt. Gleichzeitig erleben wir die Bewohnerin des "Nachbarhauses links" als reuelos und trotz schlechter physischer Verfassung als zäh und äußerst willensstark, was darauf hindeutet, dass sie sich mit ihrer Situation durchaus zu arrangieren weiß. Dafür liefert die Erzählung eine Erklärung: Botilla Jansen fand mit dem Geld einst etwas, das vermag, die "normalen" menschlichen Bedürfnisse, welche den Ausschluss jedweder sozialer Kontakte eigentlich nicht zulassen, zu kompensieren - eine Ersatzbefriedigung. Insbesondere an ihrem Goldschatz, den die Greisin Zeit ihres Lebens angehäuft hat, kann sie nun, da ihr jedes andere Glück abhanden gekommen ist, ihre Triebe und Leidenschaften ausleben. Vom Geiz zerfressen, richtet sich folglich ihr ganzes Bemühen darauf, ihr Vermögen zu schützen - komme da, was wolle. Die Chance auf menschliche Nähe hat sie dank einer steten Haltung, die selbst die eigenen Familienmitgliedern zu Schnorrern und potenziellen Dieben erklärt, längst verwirkt. Die vorliegende Arbeit wird untersuchen, wie das Geld in Botilla Jansens Leben einen solchen Stellenwert einnehmen konnte und in welch destruktiver Weise es sich fortan auf ihr Dasein auswirkt. Dazu wird nachvollzogen, inwiefern Geld bzw. Gold die Lebensstadien der Protagonistin beeinflusste und anhand zweier Theorien ein Einblick in die Psyche der Figur gewagt: Zum einen gibt die Erzählung Anhaltspunkte dafür, der Protagonistin eine Besessenheit durch einen "D
