Trapez, scris în jurul vârstei de 30 de ani şi apărut pentru prima oară la Editura Eminescu, în anul 1972, este romanul de debut al lui Ştefan Dimitriu. Dincolo de firul său epic - povestea dură, aventuroasă, incitantă a unui tânăr de vârsta anilor mijlocii de liceu care, în vremea "obsedantului deceniu" (anii '50 ai veacului trecut), este nevoit să-şi înfrunte, într-un blestemat şantier de construcţii din creierii munţilor, soarta de a se fi născut într-o familie de burghezi înstăriţi, neagreaţi de regimul comunist -, romanul lui Ştefan Dimitriu ne face portretul unei epoci dramatice din istoria ţării. Dar, cu toate că au trecut mai bine de patru decenii de la momentul scrierii şi apariţiei sale, el ne surprinde şi astăzi prin îndrăzneala, vigoarea şi prospeţimea sa.

Cititorii acestei cărţi vor găsi aici toate virtuţile unei proze moderne, prezente încă de la început în scrierile lui Ştefan Dimitriu: ştiinţa creării unui pasionant conflict literar, dozarea ingenioasă a faptelor, organizarea dramatică a materiei epice, construirea inspirată a unor personaje complexe, greu de uitat, inclusiv cele de fundal, derularea firească a dialogurilor şi, nu în ultimul rând, adăugarea la toate acestea a unei doze subtile de umor, de obicei amar, care conturează şi mai exact, printr-un contrast revelator, datele unei realităţi de multe ori absurde, aflate într-o continuă mişcare.

Acesta va fi punctul de plecare de bun augur pentru cariera unui romancier de succes care va culmina cu cel mai recent titlu al său - Lasă zilei scârba ei (Editura Vremea, 2009; eLiteratura, 2015) - o carte, aşa cum s-a spus, pentru istoria literaturii. Cu Trapez, editura noastră deschide seria reeditării romanelor de tinereţe ale lui Ştefan Dimitriu, "un autor dăruit să scrie literatură bună şi persuasivă," aşa cum îl descria profesorul Romul Munteanu (Flacăra/11.12.1987), ori, aşa cum îl caracteriza la un moment dat Alex Ştefănescu (România literară/ 12-18.01.1994) "un autor serios (sobru, capabil să inspire încredere)," de ai cărui eroi literari "ni se face dor după încheierea lecturii."

About the Author:

Ştefan Dimitriu, unul dintre cei mai mari scriitori contemporani din România, s-a născut la 21 mai 1938, în Ibăneşti-Vaslui, într-o familie de învăţători.

Debutează cu versuri, în 1957. Dar adevărata consacrare va veni odată cu debutul în proză ("Drumuri ca-n palmă," proză scurrtă, Editura Eminescu 1971).

Urmează romanele sale de succes ("Trapez" - 1972, "Tinereţea lui Bogdan Irava" - 1987, "Turnul nebunilor" - 1993, "Lasă zilei scârba ei" - 2009).

Între timp, publică şi alte volume: teatru ("Steaua păguboşilor"), eseuri, evocări ("Dealuri la Prut"), reportaj ("Ţara lui Skanderbeg"), jurnal ("Pace ţie, cititorule") etc. Traduce masiv din Evgheni Evtuşenko (volumele de versuri "Mierea târzie" şi "Porumbelul din Santiago şi alte poeme," romanul "Să nu mori înainte de moarte").

În 1910, Clubul de Proză al Uniunii Scriitorilor îi acordă Premiul de excelenţă pentru romanul "Lasă zilei scârba ei." De la absolvirea facultăţii şi până la retragerea din activitate (1967-2007), a lucrat la Radio-Televiziunea Română (realizator de emisiuni, redactor-şef, director de departament).

Documentarul său "Exerciţii de libertate," consacrat Revoluţiei Române, a fost distins cu Premiul Federaţiei Internaţionale a Arhivelor de Televiziune FIAT/IFTA (Londra, 2001) şi Nimfa de argint (Monte Carlo, 2002).

Profesorul Romul Munteanu, marele critic literar, scrie: "Poate părea paradoxal, dar romanele cele mai originale, mai profunde şi mai rezistente în timp ale generaţiei Augustin Buzura au fost scrise de Ştefan Dimitriu."
