About the Book

The Second edition of this little book is not your barn burning, best selling, gender techno-hype-philosophy. It quietly tells the story of what changing sex meant two generations ago. If there are some truths that endure, the book will be helpful to the perplexed suffering with gender identity disorder. It can equip you with some useful thinking tools to understand your bewilderment. Mainly for beginning transsexual/intersexual persons. Written by a medical doctor who has been through it all-both bad and good - as one of the trail blazer transwomen of the past century. The book discusses the major paradigm shifts of the 21st century from a psychiatrist's perspective in the last century. The book's value is in giving the new generation of transsexuals a taste of what homage is due the early trail blazers in sex reassignment. It also explains how transsexuality is a birth defect on a spectrum of intersex disorders and hence de-pathologises gender identity disorder. Second Edition.
About the Author: Rachel Tortolini (a.k.a. Sarah Seton M.D.) is a post-operative transsexual woman or transwoman who had SRS in 1980. She is author of the novel "Heat Death" (Amazon Press) under the name Abyssinian J. Kelly and numerous professional articles. She is an occasional reviewer at Amazon. She possesses a degree in medicine (M.D.) as well as residencies in psychiatry and family medicine for which she is board certified. In addition, she holds bachelor's degrees in physics, computer science, mathematics and an M.A. in philosophy. In her career, she worked in government on the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, helped design communications links for the Hubble Space Telescope, helped design the 8561 spectrum analyzer for Hewlett Packard, isolated calcium channels in neurons, worked for human rights for indigenous peoples of the Pacific (and appears in the PBS documentaries "and then there were none" and "The Tribunal.") She built her own radio telescope and is Pacific coordinator for the SETI League (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence). She is interested in mathematics and has a great uncle Barnaba who was a famous mathematician (see her article in Wikipedia on Barnaba Tortolini). Rachel reads physics books for relaxation and is interested in cosmology. She is less involved today with SETI but likes parrot communication, eclectic music, sci fi, animals, internet, and such. Someday, she would like to write a philosophy and leave the manuscript anonymously on a bench in a train station in Eastern Europe and see what happens next. She likes Pi.
