About the Book

Set on the shores of idyllic Flathead Lake in Somers, Montana, during the Great Depression era, Towers of Somers: Flawed Majesty is about Sam Sanders-a unusually smart, bold young Montanan who wants nothing more than to go to college, even if that means leaving his girl Micki behind. But he's coming of age during a time of crushing hardship, and as his family faces losing everything, his college dreams seem increasingly unrealistic. Sam, however, is undaunted, remaining determined to succeed despite everything. His is not the only dream to falter in the terrible economic collapse of the early twentieth century. As pressure mounts on the Sanders family, life begins to unravel, and devastating secrets propel them down a dangerous path, threatening to sever the ties that bind them together. A novel in the classic American style, Towers of Somers: Flawed Majesty echoes the hope, resilience, and triumphs of the silent generation, who lost almost everything except each other.
About the Author: Marv Sather is a Montana native. Born in Kalispell, he lived his first three years in Lakeside and Somers with his parents and grandparents. In 1948, his family moved to Libby because Somers lumber mill was closing. Still, the connection to the Flathead Valley was strong. The family visited monthly, and in the summers Marv would stay two weeks with his grandparents where he enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing with cousins and friends, and spending time with grandparents and extended family. It was always "home away from home." Marv taught high school English in Marysville, WA; Libby, MT; and Chattaroy, WA, a 37 year career. He also supervised student teachers for 13 years after retiring from teaching. He was Washington State Teacher of the Year in 2000. Over the years, a number of students suggested he should write a book. Towers of Somers is his first novel. Marv lives in Libby, enjoying family, friends, and the Montana outdoors. While writing this book was a dream and now a reality, it doesn't mean the author doesn't have a lot of writing experience. He was a part time journalist for a local newspaper in Libby, covering local sports and occasional feature stories. As well, he created many newsletters for teacher organizations and, now, for his church. He had an article about teaching for "This We Believe" printed by Gorham Printing. Also, he had a work of nonfiction in the Spring 2010 edition of "SpokeWrite" published by Gray Dog Press of Spokane, WA. Marv also taught creative writing for high school students in Libby, Montana, and creating a student book of works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. He also was school newspaper and yearbook journalism teacher/adviser for Libby High School and Riverside High School (Chattaroy, Washington). He continues to write and has plans for another book.
