Je fis de même avec Bob Morane, mais avec l'intention, moi, de le ressusciter dans un prochain roman. Comme Conan Doyle, je reçus, à l'époque, d'innombrables lettres de lecteurs, certaines de ces lettres allant jusqu'à m'insulter. Henri Vernes au sujet de 'La Revanche de L'Ombre Jaune' Dans ce XIIIème recueil signé Henri Vernes: La Revanche de l'Ombre Jaune (37) Le Châtiment de l'Ombre Jaune (38) L'Espion aux Cent Visages (39) Non, l'Ombre Jaune n'est pas morte ! Et elle a un vieux compte à régler avec Bob Morane. C'est à Paris que le terrible Monsieur Ming préparait avec sa bande de dacoïts et de thugs, ses inventions diaboliques destinées à semer la terreur parmi l'humanité. A nouveau, Morane se dressera devant le redoutable Mongol. Des cavernes et des rivières du Paris souterrain aux bords du Nil, l'action se déroulera sur un rythme échevelé, opiniâtre, farouche car, comme on ne l'ignore pas, l'Ombre Jaune est une ennemie implacable et satanique. Pourtant, cette fois, Bob Morane, en dépit de toute sa volonté et de l'aide de son ami Bill Ballantine et de la gracieuse Tania Orloff, ne réussira pas à triompher de Monsieur Ming. Il parviendra à contrecarrer ses plans, certes, mais l'Ombre Jaune prendra une revanche éclatante. Car, si notre ami Bob est l'adversaire acharné des puissances mauvaises, il n'est pas, lui, tout à fait immortel... Le commandant Morane est mort, tué par l'Ombre Jaune elle-même. Tout à sa douleur, Bill Ballantine n'a plus qu'une pensée: venger son ami et, en même temps, empêcher le sinistre Monsieur Ming de commettre de nouveaux forfaits. Et Bill, nanti de maigres indices, partira à la recherche du repaire de Ming, situé en Haute Birmanie. A travers un pays farouche, contrôlé par les pillards et les bandes rebelles, le courageux Ecossais sera mêlé à bien des intrigues, à bien des mystères. Il devra affronter les dacoïts, le redoutable serpent hamadryade, les sectes fanatiques hantant les monts Naga. A la recherche de l'énigmatique pays de Mi-Sing-Ling, il risquera de périr à plusieurs reprises. Mais un allié mystérieux se dressera chaque fois pour l'arracher à ses ennemis, lui permettre enfin de châtier l'odieuse Ombre Jaune. Un allié qui lui-même réservera quelques surprises à Bill Ballantine... Un mystérieux espion vêtu d'un complet à carreaux a volé la capsule atomique à grande puissance du professeur Flandre... presque à la barbe de Bob Morane. Arrêter le voleur ? Certes, toute la police est alertée. Mais voilà, ce voleur, en plus d'un complet à carreaux, possède cent visages et est en outre explosif. Seules, les autorités et Morane devraient connaître cette dernière particularité, mais les nouvelles vont vite et rien n'est plus dur à garder qu'un secret. La panique règne sur Anvers. Bien entendu, Bob Morane se dévouera pour conjurer la menace. En voiture, en hélicoptère, à la nage, il traquera l'Espion aux Cent Visages, que le moindre contact un peu trop violent peut transformer en un monstrueux champignon portant la mort et la dévastation. Cette fois, notre ami Bob devra agir avec prudence et doigté. On ne traite pas une capsule atomique avec la même désinvolture que l'on traite un champion de catch.
