About the Book

Michael Bortolotto's moving tale of learning to overcome the challenges of riding his tricycle as a toddler is not a book for children alone. Rather it is an insight into parenting, teaching, coaching, and any other life experience where we are called upon to raise children. Within this book is a lesson for the classroom, the hockey rink, the soccer field, homework time, the dinner table and all the places where we observe our children's exploration for growth. Places where as vicarious adults our needs for control, feelings of success through our children's experience, and own self-worth can flourish unchecked.
About the Author: At the age of 16 months, Michael Bortolotto was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, a conditions caused by an interruption in oxygen to the brain during birth. Through an extensive routine of time consuming exercises, he has learned to lead himself beyond the various challenges and obstacles which threatened to prevent him from walking, talking, and using his arms, hands, and fingers. He has a Diploma in applied Arts and Sciences in Recreation Administration from Malaspina University/College in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Since 1989 Michael has delivered approximately 3000 presentations to audiences in both Canada and the United States of America. He has belonged to seven different Toastmasters Clubs, has delivered keynotes at four regional conferences and competed in numerous speech contests and has either won or placed runner up in all of them. He has been a member of the Canadian Association Of Professional Speakers and has also delivered keynote speeches at different chapters of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers in Canada. Michael has been the recipient of various awards: Awarded the Cathleen Lyle Murray Foundation award by the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine in 2014. Chosen as one of the top entrepreneurs with a disability in British Columbia by Community Futures and Western Canadian Diversity Corporation in 2009. Paul Harris Fellowship award presented to him by the Rotary International in 2002, During the fall of 2008, Michael married his beautiful partner Dorothy and adopted Dorothy's wonderful daughter Natasha. Michael became a father for the first time in his life, that was the day Dorothy gave birth to their son Quintin Raymond Bortolotto. Although Quintin is only three years old, he continuously challenges his father to push beyond new obstacles, which could be seen as potential limitations that could prevent Michael from completely participating as a father and care giver. In the fall of 2011, he published his first children's storybook called "The Truth About Apples And Pineapples". The goal of the behind the story is to teach children how they can stopping bullying from occurring in their school, neighborhood, and community. During the spring of 2015, Michael published his second children's storybook called, "Tour de Courage". This book focuses on teaching children and teenagers about the power perseverance, determination, and courage.
