About the Book

"Touched by Tennessee" is a collection of eight true stories, some historical in nature, others personal, but all have the common thread of Tennessee influence. Being at a popular crossroads location of the United States, Tennessee has played an important role in geographic exploration, musical heritage, war history, transportation, new technology and innovation. As a people, Tennesseans have traditionally upheld and promoted the moralistic fiber of Heartland America - those values upon which our country was founded. Those same values are reflected yet today through the multi-cultural arts of music, storytelling, dance, and a plethora of family friendly events and attractions. Tennessee is a place where history has been and continues to be made.Follow a wagon train heading west from Philadelphia, a Spanish exploration expedition from Tampa Bay to California, a Civil War doctor from New York to Georgia, a songwriter and a preacher in Iowa, and a moving van into "The Secret City." Read about infestations of plants and animals from border to border and coast to coast. Then enjoy stories from the heart about modern people in today's world who have exhibited admirable qualities, especially perseverance and caring for others...those who have created a positive influence simply by being who they are.
About the Author: Born in Rochester, New York, Madelyn currently resides in Northeast Tennessee, via Canada and Southern California. Following a diverse career in private, corporate, and family owned businesses, she is now officially retired and pursuing her personal interests of American history, antique cars, storytelling, music, involvement with her church, and writing. Her first book, "Tiggy Tiggy Touch Wood," was released in 2014 and includes ten original short stories composed for the storytelling stage and subsequently converted to written form. The book has received excellent reviews from the storytelling and literary communities. The stories are inspirational in nature and suitable for all audiences. "Shoes in the River" was released in 2015 - a thoughtful insight into real life in China as affected by the one-child-per-family edict, which produced a dilemma still being dealt with today. While the characters are fictional, the issues are real. It also has received excellent reviews. Madelyn's third book, "Touched by Tennessee," is a compilation of eight true stories, each one addressing different time frames in our country's history that were, or still are, connected to Tennessee. A sequel to "Shoes in the River" is planned for 2017, followed by two children's books. She also intends to incorporate some of her short stories into audio books.
