Die heutige Geschäftswelt, die durch einen zunehmenden Wettbewerbsdruck durch die Globalisierung der Märkte gekennzeichnet ist, hat sich entscheidend verändert. In Zeiten der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise fordert die Politik immer stärker, dass die deutsche Wirtschaft den globalen Konkurrenzkampf annimmt. Längst ist die deutsche Qualität kein schlagendes Verkaufsargument mehr, sondern Preis, Leistung, Verfügbarkeit und Servicequalität sind die bestimmenden Faktoren, die Produktions- und Handelsbetriebe optimieren müssen, um im internationalen Wettbewerb erfolgreich sein zu können. Gleichzeitig sind diese Faktoren auch die Determinanten für die moderne Ausrichtung des Beschaffungsmanagements mit kürzeren Entwicklungs- und Produktlebenszeiten, geringen Lagerkapazitätrn und erhöhtem Outsourcing. Diese internationale Marktkomplexität erfordert adäquate Instrumente des strategischen Kostenmanagements in der Beschaffung, wobei die Einkaufsabteilung ausgehend von differenzierten Preisvergleichen, Lieferantenbewertungen, Make or Buy Entscheidungen oder Cost Benchmarking auch die Möglichkeiten des Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Konzeptes in Erwägung ziehen sollte. Dabei ist zu beachten, dass der Einkauf häufig einen Großteil der Gesamtausgaben eines Unternehmens ausmacht und somit nachhaltig die Wettbewerbsposition und die anderen Prozesse entlang der Wertschöpfungskette beeinflusst. Da in vielen Fällen die Folgekosten nach dem Kauf den ursprünglichen Einkaufspreis um ein Vielfaches übersteigen, bedeutet der niedrigste Einkaufspreis von Gütern nicht automatisch, dass sie auch die niedrigsten Kosten über den gesamten Lebenszyklus im Unternehmen verursachen. Zur Betrachtung aller Lebenszykluskosten wird daher die TCO Methode mit dem Ziel eingesetzt, alle Kosten in Verbindung mit der Akquisition, der Nutzung, der Wartung und der Entsorgung bei der Lieferantenauswahl zu berücksichtigen. About the Author: Sascha Krischun wurde 1979 in Flensburg geboren. Nach seinem Abitur 1999 an der Friedrich Paulsen Schule Nieb¿ll entschied sich der Autor für ein betriebswirtschaftliches Studium im Bereich Destinationsmanagement an der Fachhochschule Westküste in Heide Holstein. Nach einigen Jahren beruflichen Wirkens im Tourismusmarketing wechselte er in den internationalen Vertrieb von Elektronikkomponenten und absolvierte zeitgleich sein Master Studium der BWL an der Fachhochschule Kiel. In dieser Zeit wurde sein Interesse für das internationale Beschaffungsmanagement und insbesondere für den Total Cost of Ownership Ansatz geweckt. Die gesammelten Erfahrungen aus erhaltenen Evaluationen von Kunden motivierte Herrn Krischun den TCO Ansatz aus der Perspektive eines beschaffenden Unternehmens in seiner Master Thesis zu betrachten.
