En "La Torre Gótica o el Espectro de Limberg" (1834), novela histórica sobre el s.XIV durante el reinado de Venceslao I Emperador de Alemania, los espectros vagan por la deshabitada torre de la fortaleza de Limberg atormentando a sus habitantes, conocedores de diversas leyendas sobre el asunto. La verdad sobre lo que acontece será decisivo para enmendar la tiranía impuesta y castigar a los villanos ambiciosos, advenedizos que borrachos de poder cobardemente hacen sufrir, torturan e imponen tiempos de terror al pueblo.
About the Author: Pascual Pérez Rodríguez nació en Valencia en 1804, hijo de Vicente Pérez, relator de la Audiencia territorial y de Mariana Rodríguez, bautizado con el nombre de Manuel Julián, nombre que cambió por el de Pascual al profesar como religioso. Concluyó sus estudios de latín en el Seminario y los de Filosofía en la Universidad de su ciudad natal. Alentado por sus maestros entró en el noviciado con trece años, profesando a los dieciséis. Tres años después, fue nombrado director de los alumnos internos y profesor de humanidades en el Colegio de Zaragoza. En 1827 se estableció en Valencia, también como profesor de humanidades, en el Colegio de las Escuelas Pías. En 1835 abandonó la vida religiosa, al estar aquejado por una dolencia espasmódica, y posteriormente solicitó y obtuvo la secularización en 1851. Un ataque de apoplejía le llevó a la tumba en 1868. Escribió autos sacramentales en valenciano como: El diable pres (1855), La loca de Morella (1863) y La venta improvisada (1867), que se representaron públicamente. Tradujo los tres tomos de Los viajes de Alí-Bey-el Abbássi (1836), la Vida de la Virgen del abate Orsini (1841), y comenzó la traducción de la Biblia de Royaumont, que a su muerte fue acabada por Vicente Boix. Como escritor se especializó en el género de la novela gótica, de las que escribió tres: La torre gótica o El espectro de Limberg (1831), El hombre invisible o Las ruinas de Munsterhall (1833) y La urna sangrienta o El panteón de Scianella (1834), considerada la obra maestra del género en España.
