About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Does hearing and keeping silent a confession of a crime of passion make us an accomplice? Can we escape the weight of the past? Are we the protagonists of our own destiny or simple puppets?

These and other questions await us in this emblematic novel of extreme choices. Serrano, Felo, Pato, and Liliana are involved in a tangled web of silence, betrayals, and conflicting obsessions that is unraveled by the death of a mutual acquaintance. A moral-less fable about the abysses of fatal love, ambition, and delusions, For a Lifetime is also a nostalgic tour through the lost terrain of bohemian life in Mexico City, a literary inquiry about how novels are written, and a reminder of the rotten relationship between the police and politics in the Mexico of the old regime.

After the success of Adiós a los padres, Héctor Aguilar Camín's celebrated autobiographical novel, For a Lifetime marks his return to pure fiction where words paint an unsettling story of love, jealousy, and power that will not leave any reader indifferent.
