Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 2,3, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germanistisches Institut), Veranstaltung: Das Titanic-Archiv, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Sie galt als unsinkbar und doch ist das für unmöglich gehaltene geschehen. Am 15. April 1912 ist die Titanic nach einer Kollision mit einem Eisberg, circa 30 Seemeilen von Neufundland entfernt, gesunken. 1517 Menschen sollen bei einem der größten Seefahrtkatastrophen aller Zeiten ihr Leben gelassen haben. Auch fast 99 Jahre später sorgt das Titanic-Unglück immer mal wieder für Gesprächsstoff. Oft wurde sich in all' den Jahren diesem Thema angenommen. Die Titanic ist zu einem Medienmythos geworden. Es wurde viel über sie geschrieben und zahlreiche Filme wurden gedreht. Die bekannteste Verfilmung ist wohl die von Regisseur James Cameron aus dem Jahre 1997, die nicht nur elf Oscars einheimste, sondern auch der jüngeren Generation das Unglück ins Bewusstsein rief. Die vorliegende Seminararbeit wird sich mit der Frage der Schuld beschäftigen. Wer oder was ist für den Zusammenstoß mit dem Eisberg und die hohe Opferzahl verantwortlich? Etwa die Reederei White Star Line, weil sie, wie vermutet wird, einen neuen Rekord auf der Strecke zwischen Southampton und New York aufstellen wollte? Oder vielleicht der Kapitän Smith, weil er in der Notsituation falsch handelte? Waren vielleicht zu wenig Rettungsboote an Bord? Wenn ja, warum? Die Frage der Schuld nahm auch in den zeitgenössischen Presseberichten eine nicht unbedeutende Stellung ein. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden Presseberichte der beiden österreichischen Zeitungen "Neue Freie Presse" und "Prager Tagblatt" untersucht. Die Leitfrage lautet: Wie versuchen die jeweiligen Medien die Frage der Schuld zu klären? Untersucht werden die Berichte zwischen dem 15. April 1912 und dem 22. April 1912, also direkt die Woche nach dem Unglück. Eine ausgedehnte Untersuchung des Unglücks hat zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht
