About the Book

Time Just Drifts Away is the first release from writer and photographer Bob Hocking. The book contains a collection of observations and interviews from his noted web site, In My Backpack. (www.inmybackpack.com) Using a keen eye for detail, a smooth writing style, and a tone reminiscent of Robert Fulghem, Bob delivers the reader at a comfortable pace and with a friendly perspective through his thoughts on topics such as: making the most of two minutes... best wishes for a "Merry Christmas"... the chipmunks living in the stone wall... perfect glasses of lemonade... and being world famous. The interview section features participants Tom Collicchio, Suzi Quatro, Mark Patinkin, Jimmy Haslip, Rick Price, Kelly Smith, Art Vargas, Kevin Mills, Deirdre Flint, Tom Sadge, Ryan Parker, and Kathryn O'Halloran. Time Just Drifts Away focuses on the period running from March of 2003 until March of 2012 at In My Backpack. Jay Gillen has provided artwork and design features for In My Backpack, and Bob is proud to include some of his work on the cover of this edition.
About the Author: Bob graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in English. While at school, he began working on the campus ambulance service and also spent several years working in the operating room of a hospital, which developed a basic medical background for him. Naturally, with an English degree and medical experience, the majority of his professional career has been spent in other fields. In March of 2003, Bob brought his writing efforts to the web with his own site, In My Backpack. (www.inmybackpack.com) Over the years, the site has included general interest, sports and travel material, specialized writing such as movie reviews, and also has captured the flavors-of-the-day in an on-going journal entry segment. Over the past few years, Bob has conducted hundreds of interviews, many of which have appeared in full or in part on his site. Some of the people he has met and worked with on articles include: Tom Colicchio, Suzi Quatro, Jimmy Haslip, Terry Fator, Jerry Springer, and Emilio Estefan. Bob considers himself "a writer with a camera," though the concept hasn't prevented him from creating a sizeable portfolio of professional work. On his web site, photo galleries exist for several entertainers, as well as a feature on the touring exhibit of Diana: A Celebration. His photographs have been used by groups such as Legends in Concert. In January of 2012, Bob began an effort called Local Friends for Local Business. By establishing a monthly challenge, Local Friends strives to raise awareness and support for unique and special neighborhood treasures -- the small businesses in every community. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Bob currently lives in Connecticut with his wife, Terry, and their two St. Bernards, Molly and Gus.
