Das erkannte angeblich schon Mark Twain und auch heute noch wird von vielen Menschen nicht nur der Hund als "bester Freund des Menschen" betitelt. Dass Tiere etwas an sich haben, das uns Menschen fasziniert, beruhigt und erfreut lässt sich ebenso wenig von der Hand weisen, wie der Umstand, dass Tiere auch Angst, Ekel und sogar Wut auslösen können. Sie können also etwas, das leblose Gegenstände nicht können - die gesamte Palette der Emotionen auslösen. Nicht zuletzt deshalb sind Tiere gerade bei Kindern und Jugendlichen sehr beliebt. In dieser Arbeit soll es jedoch nicht nur darum gehen, ob Tiere Menschen Freude bereiten können, sondern um die Frage, ob Tiere vielleicht noch viel mehr auslösen als nur bestimmte Emotionen. Stress und Angst in der Schule sind schon lange ein Thema der Pädagogik. Insbesondere der Stress in Leistungssituationen ist für Kinder ein hemmender Aspekt. Doch im Schulalltag können alle Arten von Emotionen ausgelöst werden. Nicht selten enthält ein einziger Schultag eines Schülers die Emotionen Angst, Wut und Freude. Dass sich dies in den Noten niederschlägt erscheint logisch. Doch wie beeinflussen Emotionen das Lernen und lässt sich darauf einwirken? Es wird deutlich, dass dieser Arbeit zwei Fragestellungen zugrunde liegen, die am Ende zu einer zusammengefügt werden. Zum einen wird es darum gehen, ob Emotionen einen Effekt auf den Lernprozess und Lernergebnisse haben. Zum anderen wird im Fokus stehen, ob Tiere die Emotionen von Menschen beeinflussen können und wie sich dies äußert. Ziel ist es durch die Beantwortung dieser beiden Fragestellungen im Fazit herausstellen zu können, ob und wie der Einsatz von Tieren in der Schule über die Beeinflussung der Emotionen von SuS den Lernprozess verbessern kann.
