"Silence is worse; all truths that are kept silent become poisonous."
― Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and Noneis a philosophical parable that follows the wanderings of a Nietzschean prophet called Zarathustra. It is written by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and is composed of four parts written and published between the years 1883 and 1885.
Zarathustra is a sage and a prophet who is said to be "one who turns traditional morality on its head". He has appreciable love for humanity and desires to teach other people the great truth he realized in his solitude in the mountain; the overman. The overman is free from all the prejudices and moralities of human society and creates values and purpose of his own.
He comes down from his mountain and arrives in the town of the Motley Cow. He announces that the overman must be the meaning of the earth and that God is dead. However, the people reject him and his teachings, and Zarathustra realizes that his teachings must take a different route. He decides not to try to convert the mass but to speak to those who are interested.
Zarathustra was able to find disciples who are willing to listen to his teachings and taught them in private. He envisions these disciples to carry on his teaching to the rest of the world, yet, nothing is set in stone. Zarathustra's disciples did not get what he is trying to teach them. So, he goes back to the mountain and into solitude while still encouraging his disciples to go out and spread the word of his teachings.
Zarathustra had a vision in his solitude and realizes that his disciples have distorted his teachings.
