About the Book

Thunder In Sinai follows the actions of William Smith, an American, who works for Yitzhak Kahan, Deputy Director of Mossad, during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. He is caught up the events of the war when Egypt is determined to recover the Sinai Peninsula and Syria plots to retake the Golan Heights, both lost to Israel during the Six Day War in 1967. On October 6th, the two nations launched a surprise attack against Israel on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The United States and the USSR faced off in a naval showdown in the Mediterranean Sea in support of their allies, resulting in the most dangerous confrontation of the Cold War. Never again would the two Superpowers have such large forces arrayed against each other in such a small area and bring the world to the brink of nuclear war.
About the Author: Don Eudy writes at his central Florida home located in Polk County between Tampa and Orlando. The subtropical climate provides an incentive to write during the hot summers although the moderate winters pull even the most dedicated authors outdoors from November to May. His narratives are set in the Middle East and Europe and have as their focus the creation of a nuclear arsenal by the nation of Israel to insure its survival. The Thunder in Zion trilogy follows the protagonist, William Smith, from the Six Day War in 1967 (Thunder in the Negev) to the Munich Massacre in 1972 (Thunder in Deutschland) and on to the conclusion in 1973, the Yom Kippur War (Thunder in Sinai). Another work is in the planning stages, and the working title is Thunder on the Horizon. A writer for his entire career, the author enjoys creating characters and using dialogue to further the plot, which produces an interesting study in human behavior. "Man's inhumanity to man" is a time-honored theme that has gained in relevance during the "Atomic Age." Belonging to a particular location has become more significant as the world's population has increased, just as belonging to unique group has become a means of identification that is deemed essential for defining one's reason for being. The author has concluded that being old is better than being young since you have already made most of your mistakes, although there is still much to be done. Cool periods during the morning and evening find the author gardening or taking long walks and thinking of where he has traveled and what might be found on the next journey. "Always describe the weather," a famous writer said, and to that should be added, the land and the food also if you are going to show what a people are like. The author finds that reading and learning are essential to good writing if a writer wishes to entice readers to "go down the rabbit hole with them" and leave the world they know behind and see things they have never seen before.
