Fernando, a two-year old Bichon Frise, and Ivy, an eleven-year-old girl, are the very best of friends. And despite Fernando's inability to use words, he and Ivy understand each other in a way few friends ever do.
But life changes drastically for Fernando and Ivy when they move from San Francisco, California, to Park City, Utah.
Leaving behind a life of luxury and pampering in the city, Fernando turns into an active country dog. As part of this new life, Fernando begins training for agility contests with Ivy. Fernando works hard, getting stronger and faster, until he is ready to compete in the State agility competition. And to everyone's surprise, this former city dog runs the course with ease and wins, earning an opportunity to go to Nationals!
But when he meets with an elderly dog from his past at Nationals, Fernando must choose between helping his old friend and disappointing Ivy.
Told from the perspective of Fernando, this is a heartwarming, emotional story about friendships and loyalty and the consequences of the choices we make.
