Thérèse philosophe, ou mémoires pour servir à l'histoire du Père Dirrag et de Mademoiselle Éradice, plus connu sous le nom de Thérèse philosophe est un roman de 1748 à l'attribution contestée. Produit d'une audacieuse entreprise éditoriale à cheval sur l'actuelle Belgique et la France, il est vraisemblablement composite. On peut citer parmi les attributions les plus solidement étayées pour ses différentes parties celle à Jean-Baptiste Boyer d'Argens, ainsi que celle à Louis-Charles Fougeret de Monbron. Thérèse Philosophe rapporte la relation entre Marie-Catherine Cadière et Jean-Baptiste Girard, de quasi trente ans son aîné. Principalement considéré comme un roman pornographique, ce qui explique ses ventes massives dans la France du XVIIIe siècle où les oeuvres pornographiques réalisaient les meilleures ventes, ce roman des Lumières contient certaines idées des Philosophes. Concepts philosophique et social En dépit de la dépravation qu'elle dépeint, cette oeuvre a un certain mérite philosophique dans ses concepts fondamentaux. Des discussions entre les personnages sur les questions philosophiques alternent avec les sections les plus obscènes du roman. Comme dans la très grande majorité des romans libertins, les personnages féminins sont plus jeunes que les personnages masculins. Avec Thérèse philosophe voici l'histoire d'une relation entre une jeune fille mineure et un vieux prêtre. Ce roman attire l'attention sur la répression sexuelle des femmes à l'époque des Lumières, mais également sur l'exploitation de la sexualité par l'autorité religieuse.
About the Author: Jean-Baptiste de Boyer, marquis d'Argens, né à Aix-en-Provence le 27 juin 1703[1], mort au château de La Garde, près de Toulon, le 11 janvier 1771, est un écrivain français. Fils de Pierre-Jean de Boyer, marquis d'Argens, seigneur d'Eguilles et de Joyeuse-Garde, procureur général au Parlement de Provence et d'Angélique l'Enfant[2], petit fils de Jean-Baptiste Boyer d'Éguilles, Boyer d'Argens suivit la carrière des armes et eut une jeunesse fort licencieuse. Sa vie sentimentale impétueuse s'est particulièrement orientée vers les actrices de théâtre. Dès l'âge de quinze ans, malgré l'opposition de son père qui le destinait, en tant que fils aîné, à la magistrature, il entra dans l'armée où il resta jusqu'à la trentaine, ce qui poussa son père à le déshériter au profit de son frère cadet, Alexandre Jean-Baptiste de Boyer. Blessé devant Philipsbourg en 1734, il quitta le service et se retira en Hollande, afin d'y écrire librement ses pamphlets.
