Standig steigende Leistungsforderungen mach en es unumganglich, auch die thermisch-mechanischen Moglichkeiten voll auszuschop- fen und rechnerisch Grenzen zu ermitteln. Das Hauptaugenmerk sollte bei der Rechenmethode jedoch auf der einfachen ingenieur- maBigen Anwendbarkeit liegen und sollte als Modell physikalisch anschaulich seine Die rasante Entwicklung der Computertechnik hat es in den letzten Jahren moglich gemacht, immer umfangrei- chere Programme zu rechnen. Die standige Komplizierung der Theorien zu den Programmen macht es oft schwer, sich bei der Anwendung eine klare Vorstellung von den zugrundeliegenden phy- sikalischen Vorgangen zu verschaffen. Schon die Interpretation von "black box"-Ergebnissen ist risikovoll, wenn keine inge- nieurmaBige Vorstellung tiber die GroBenordnung und den Charak- ter der Ergebnisse durch einfache Modelle besteht. Bei thermoelastischen Problemen hat sich besonders ftir prakti- sche Anwendungsfalle die anschauliche Idee des "thermischen Balkens" entwickelt. Die anfanglich sehr einfachen Rechenmo- delle mit quasi-eindimensionaler Warmeleitung waren aus der Not- wendigkeit eines moglichst geringen Rechenaufwandes entstan- den([111, l12], l13]). Die heutigen Rechner bieten dagegen ohne Schwierigkeiten eine wesentliche Steigerung des numerischen Auf- wandes. Es haben sich mit diesen neuen Moglichkeiten spezielle numerische Verfahren durchgesetzt. Insbesondere sind dazu die Differenzenverfahren zu rechnen.
