About the Book

THAT'S WHAT THEY SAYRamblings and Musings from the WOODSTOCK GenerationA Collection of stories, poems and essays from the Generation AKA "Baby Boomers" that saw the Beatles, The Vietnam war, Tie Dye, The Flower Children, the Sexual Revolution, The Assassinations of Martin Luther King, John and Bobby Kennedy and a myriad of social and ideological changes in the lives of Americans. This anthology gets its inspiration from the members of the Lutheran Writers' Group. Serving a dual purpose of getting people interested in writing and out of their apartments, since February of 2017, it has proven to be a hit. The people in the building are low-income seniors with little disposable income and sometimes not very good health. The average age of the members is 70 + The inspiration for this anthology is a member who was diagnosed with advanced cancer in May and has on her bucket list to be a published writer. Another member has cancer in his hip age 85+, a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, who though in pain a lot of the time, wants to be part of this project. He writes poems with humor and fun. One of our members is also a Vietnam vet. A metaphysical priest and an LGBT woman, one man is a Christian writer and a cancer survivor, another an 84-year-old woman who paid to have her book published last year and is working on another. One woman is graduate of a prestigious Woman's College (Smith) who has her Master's degree and spent a lot of years in jobs that required her writing "How to Books" but this is her first junket into creative writing. Our honorary member is legally blind but he enjoys hearing us read our work, and he occasionally writes something of his own on a large type screen. We have two other poets-A man who overcame spina bifida as a child and is recently in recovery for a bad fall that broke his hip. Our female poet is a widow who has been writing poetry for thirty years but was reluctant to share it.It is a courageous group of people. All have a zest for life in common.
