Resurrección.Situada en una colina al lado de la ciudad de Tomar, en Portugal, se encuentra lo que otrora fue un monasterio fortaleza perfectamente conservado que data del siglo XII de nuestra era, y que sirvió de cuartel general a la Orden de los Caballeros del Templo del Rey Salomón (Templarios), y posteriormente a la caída de estos, albergó también a la de los Caballeros del Cristo en tiempos del rey Dinis, allá por 1320.El edificio es famoso por cuanto su construcción fue obra del famoso héroe legendario Gualdim Pais, cuarto Maestre templario en Portugal, muy ligado a la campaña lusa de reconquista, cuya leyenda indica que por su valentía fue nombrado Caballero en la trascendental batalla de Ourique por el propio rey Alfonso I de Portugal.Este viejo edificio: fortaleza, convento, iglesia y las mil funciones que debía tener una construcción medieval de este tipo, acogió la Orden de los Caballeros del Cristo, esto es, en lo que devinieron los Caballeros Templarios de este país, y según algunos, hasta de otros países europeos, que huyeron de la persecución a que fue sometida la poderosa orden militar-religiosa después de los trágicos eventos relacionados con su supresión, a principios del siglo XIV.Aquello que pudo ser considerado como una Apocalipsis templaria, al menos en Francia, y en menor medida en Italia, España y otros países europeos, no se llevó a cabo de igual forma en Portugal, donde un rey racional consideró conveniente mantener la orden, o una similar, bajo su égida, para proteger costas y fronteras en épocas, donde lo común eran las guerras y no la paz.Posteriormente, en la campaña militar llevada a cabo por Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, III duque de Alba contra los portugueses, en que este salió victorioso en la batalla de Alcántara en 1580, el Monasterio del Cristo de Tomar sirvió para la proclamación de Felipe II de España y de medio mundo, como Rey de Portugal, dado por problemas de sucesión después de la prematura muerte en combate de su Rey, Sebastián I, luchando contra los almorávides en el norte de Marruecos, con lo que se inauguró una época oscura para este país, falto de independencia y bajo el azote de la Santa Inquisición que no dudó en cebarse con sus monumentos, destruir valiosos documentos y manuscritos históricos y expoliar sus riquezas. De esto no se salvó siquiera el santo mausoleo templario con las tumbas de sus Grandes Maestres, vilmente profanadas.Años después, durante la llamada Guerra de la Restauración, Portugal alcanzó de nuevo su independencia ante una España debilitada, a través del Tratado de Lisboa de 1668, y entonces las aguas volvieron a su cause, los españoles a España y los portugueses a Portugal, aunque ya no quedaban ni templarios, ni caballeros del Cristo, pero si el viejo monasterio.En torno a esta vieja y vetusta edificación, y en la propia ciudad de Tomar, se respira un intenso aire templario, que se refleja hasta en las originales aceras de pequeñas piedras unidas por hábiles artesanos, donde aparecen incrustadas las cruces templarias, situación que nos llevó a recopilar notas y fotos sobre este y otras edificaciones semejantes en el país luso, dado que hasta el presente la casi totalidad de obras escritas relacionadas con los caballeros templarios toman como marco geográfico a otros países del continente europeo.Aunque de inicio no nos mostrábamos muy interesados en el tema, sobre todo para no competir sobre algo que despierta tanto interés, al final nos vimos arrastrados por la corriente y decidimos publicar parte de la información recogida en forma de novela, aunque narrada en parte como crónica con cierta carga de historia real, y ubicando los acontecimientos de ficción principalmente en Lisboa, capital de Portugal.
