About the Book

Teaching Teachers How To Teach 101 is a guide to assist neophyte teachers with making the transition from the college classroom and internship to "the real world of teaching". This book will help them move from theory to practice with guides on developing innovative and creative lessons, working with students who have special needs, discipline and "knowing when to hold it, and knowing when to fold it". This is the 21st Century Harry Wong's First Days of School.
About the Author: Biography Georgia Ellis Gary began her teaching career in 1987 in Macon, Georgia. She taught middle school for five years before moving to Atlanta, Georgia with her two sons Olatunde (Donte) and Jerrold. She taught middle school at John F. Kennedy and Southwest Middle Schools. In 1994, she transferred to North Atlanta High School of International Baccalaureate and Performing Arts where she taught general, honors and International Studies English. Georgia remained a full time teacher until 2002. She was then promoted to department chair. Her desire and initiative to become an administrator led to her next promotion as administrative assistant. Georgia wrote a pilot program for failing eighth graders (at a nearby feeder middle school). The T.I.P. program became the impetus for a summer transition program that summer. As administrative assistant, Georgia was asked to write a program for the astronomical number of failing ninth graders at North Atlanta High School. She wrote a Ninth Grade Academy program to address the problem. It became the mandate by the superintendent to implement it in 6 of the 11 high schools in the Atlanta Public School System. In 2004, Georgia moved to Dothan, Alabama where she became assistant principal at Northview High School and principal of Dothan High School. She was the first female principal to serve at the latter high school and the only female principal for either of the two schools in the city. Georgia was nominated 27 times to Who's Who Among American Teachers, and continued to receive nominations after she left Georgia and moved to Alabama. Her professional career includes being a test and curriculum writer for the Georgia Department of Education; attended the Governor's Leadership Academy of Georgia; University Supervisor of Student Interns for Troy State University, Dothan, Alabama. Georgia holds a Bachelor's of Arts in English, Education and Mass Communications from Mercer University, a Master's of Education in Administration and Supervision, an Education Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction from Troy State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Sarasota (now Argosy University). Outside of her professional interests, she enjoys spending time with her husband, sons (their spouses), grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She enjoys traveling, golfing, swimming, creative writing, feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and shut-in and going to church.
