About the Book

In this extraordinary anthology of 97 biblical christian poems Jason Horsler states that it is his greatest hope that his poetry inspires others or better yet leads them to think more clearly and deeply about who they are and who God is - and perhaps, with that terrifying realisation, they might see the absolute necessity for faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross and that they might have peace in the love of God. He does this in a creative engaging style marked by brevity, humour, image and excellent rhyme. His poetry has an instant classical apeal along the lines of Frost, Blake, Owen, Shelly, Patten, Housman, Hughes and Wordsworth. His own enjoyment in the writing process is delightfully tangible and well translated to the reader. Every poem stands up off the page and demands another read through. These are poems to ponder, to share, to read out loud, to study, to be inspired by - written over thirty years and now at last gathered into a single Christian anthology. With intriguing titles and a broad range of themes there is something here for everyone - encouragement for the saved, warnings for the lost, illustrations for the pulpit and in many cases pure worship.
Jason's non-religious poetry has likewise been gathered into a separate anthology: Beware The Cheshire Cat and is well worth checking out.

Here below is a sample poem - a new take on Robert Frost's famous "The Road Not Taken" poem:

THE CHOICE NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged as they often do
and at the fork a skeleton lay -
a traveller who stood and thought it through;
as around his feet the bindweed grew.
He stayed too long to choose a way

Seeing both paths equal - foul or fair -
I wonder how his thinking went
that had him starved and rooted there;
caught in vacillation's snare
until his life was vainly spent.

We may say this fool deserved to die;
this ignoramus had no wit,
but for God's grace stay you or I
who do not lack the Lord's supply;
for decision has faith at the soul of it.

I shall be singing this by and by
somewhere many ages hence:
two roads diverged and it was not I
who made no choice except to die
and thus show God indifference.
