About the Book

There is an epidemic that is going on. It is estimated that one out of every two mothers are affected by it. No one is talking about it, but a lot of women feel it. Intense fatigue, emotional fluctuations, memory issues, hormonal and other health complications, which for some, can be debilitating and even life threatening. It's called Postnatal Depletion, being depleted after having a baby and can extend from the first days of birth to more than ten years later, possibly predisposing the mother to later health complications. There is a different reality after giving birth than what is presented to us. All women don't just snap back into shape after having a baby and if they don't feel good, it's postpartum depression. In this ground breaking book, Dr. Danett Bean (Doctor of Acupuncture & Asian Medicine), preventive care, women's health specialist, integrative medicine practitioner and survivor of postnatal depletion uncovers the roots to this phenomena as a societal issue and offers practical solutions to preventing and ending this condition. If you are an expectant or new mother, father or plan to be one someday, experienced parent, or you have parents that you care about in your life, you can't afford to not read this book. This book comes with helpful tools, including: Postnatal Care Template, Dr. Danett's personal list of things that helped her to recover, Directory of Resources and a list of Specifics Tips To Help Support Mothers, plus video contributions from maternal care experts.
About the Author: Dr. Danett Bean, affectionately called Dr. Danett (Doctor of Acupuncture and Asian Medicine) is a compassionate healer who began studying health in the early nineties. Though Dr. Danett's clinical experience is vast, her biggest health lesson came after having her son. Dr. Danett battled health conditions for years that almost took her life, but she survived victoriously and became passionate about helping spread awareness on Postnatal Depletion. This resulted in the authoring of her book, A Taste of our own Medicine: 3 Vital Keys to Ending Postnatal Depletion, Nurturing Mothers and Improving Our Communities. Dr. Danett is dedicated to the essential practice of preventive care for women. This intersection of preventive care and women's health is where Dr. Danett feels most passionate about and lectures on. This passion fueled the creation of Yoni Box, a health savvy blog that provides natural based perspectives and solutions. Dr. Danett has also authored Fibroid Prevention Guide. In addition, she offers natural remedies that can support woman, young and old through key transitions in life. In her private practice, Dr. Danett assists women with the full spectrum of reproductive health concerns including: menstrual cycle issues for teenagers and adults, fertility readiness, labor preparation, postnatal care, hormonal imbalances and menopausal symptoms. Currently, Dr. Danett sees patients by appointment in her Brooklyn office and offers virtual consultations to patients across the globe. Dr. Danett has a Doctoral Asian medical specialization in women's health and geriatrics, with a Diplomate of Asian medicine. A New York state licensed acupuncturist, Dr. Danett is certified in Chinese herbology, eastern nutrition and Earth Qi Gong for women. She is also a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and is appointed to the medical staff of the University Hospital of Brooklyn. Dr. Danett is also an adjunct professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, NYC. A former member of the medical staff of the Women's Health Center Empowerment Division at Housing Works and assistant producer of Global Medicine Review, Dr. Danett has helped organize community health expos including collaborations with CCCADI, WBAI and Baruch College. She also has been a featured guest on radio and television media. Currently residing in Brooklyn NY, Dr. Danett is a mother and wife.
