Checkpoints gone awry/ Travellers run astray/ A dark storm cloud hanging/ Threatening to unleash/ Its macabre wrath
And then lightning strikes/ Brazen light beating/ Each harsh glare of light/ A resounding threat/ As if it were the last
Revel in the emotions that define us with Victoria A. Kwok's dazzling poetry debut, A Taste of Humanity.
A delicately assembled collection of thoughts, emotions, and profound musings on the human condition, this volume simply bursts with genuine feeling and technical mastery.
A melodic portrait of what it means to truly be human, its poems manage to capture both the quiet and chaotic moments of life.
Whether ensconced in the warm cocoon of family or wrapped up in the lure of a dream, Kwok somehow manages to put all of the bliss, rage, disappointment, and triumph on paper in this eclectic compilation.
Kwok's use of satire also reveals an insightful commentary on the social pressures that young people face today, including the devastating effects that incessant competition and the never-ending lunge for success are having on humans.
