La presente edizione del Tao Te Ching di Lao Tzu, è resa in Italiano, da una traduzione degli inizi del '900, dal Cinese in Inglese, ad opera di Dwight Goddard (1861-1939). Essa è tratta dall'edizione originale del libro "Tao and Wu Wei" (Brentano's Publishers, New York, 1919), che includeva il Tao Teh King di Goddard, ed una traduzione in Inglese di una breve dissertazione sul Taoismo, dal titolo "Wu Wei", del sinologo, scrittore e traduttore olandese Henri Borel(1869-1933). " Perché pubblicare un'altra traduzione del 'Tao te Ching'? Questa è la traduzione di Dwight Goddard, autore di 'A Buddhist Bible', ed è una versione molto trasparente e leggibile. Questa traduzione originale venne in seguito sostituita da un'altra versione, che Goddard inserì nelle successive edizioni di 'Una Bibbia Buddista', ed è uno dei pochi testi esplicitamente non-buddisti in quella raccolta. Le versioni del Tao Te Ching già presenti online, sono degli studiosi del XIX sec. che, per quanto molto capaci, tendono ad essere un po' pedanti. I concetti di Taoismo sono limpidi e, avvolgendoli in troppa verbosità, come fecero J.Legge ed altri, si aggiunge uno strato di oscurità non necessario.
