Se enmarca dentro del estilo neoclásico y presenta una visión idealizada del continente americano, una visión que no solo afecta a su descubridor, sino también al propio territorio "descubierto".

La escenografía es estática, representando una sala de una casa particular que sirve como escenario para las interacciones entre los personajes. Ana y Pascual abren la obra con un diálogo que revela las dinámicas de poder y las funciones de género dentro del hogar. Doña Paquita, otro personaje importante, introduce un elemento de intriga romántica, hablando de Don Juan, quien ansía entrar en la casa para comunicarse con ella.
